Notes: The last time I made a Doctor Who vid, Catherine Tate had just ended her run as Donna Noble. It's been that long. However, in a lot of ways, it's a bit like visiting an old friend (with a new face, obviously). Purplefringe wanted a River Song vid that encompassed all of the Doctors she tangoed with and I did my best to accommodate. Oddly enough, the song didn't come from the Guardians of the Galaxy trailers, but a Youtube trawl I was making for unrelated reasons.

The BBC has released a minisode prologue for The Day of the Doctor titled "Night of the Doctor".

I had to pause it at around 0:20 so I could squee and flail at

echan, who was very amused by my squeeing and flailing. Then I went back and watched the rest and kept on squeeing and flailing.

I love you all dearly, but I am currently two episodes behind on Doctor Who and even non-spoilery single-sentence reactions can be spoilery. So I'm avoiding the heck out of you for the moment.

Guys, I had so much fun at the Gallifrey One convention. A little crowded for my taste, but... wow. So many cool attendees, such great guests, plus some classic Doctor Who episodes I'd never seen. Thanks

I stood behind Paul McGann at the bar while he ordered a drink. That's how cool my weekend was.

Now I'm gonna go collapse, because it was also an exhausting weekend.

Going to Gallifrey One this weekend for the first time! Yay. Bad news is that my car's not really an option (the registration is expired and I still haven't renewed it because I am a terrible human being) and taking the bus back and forth each day is going to be super-extra inconvenient. Is there anybody going who'd be willing to let me crash on their hotel room floor? I'd be happy to chip in a few bucks!

No spoilers here, but I think that may have been the first truly bad episode of the Matt Smith era. Not only chockfull of plot holes, but also dead boring.

Thank goodness that Neil Gaiman is swooping in next week to pick things up a bit.

Also, a reminder that I am in Phoenix this weekend, starting on Friday.

I'm watching an obscure British horror film called Blood on Satan's Claw (1971) and it features a fresh-faced young woman in a supporting role as a 13 or 14 year old village girl. And she's freakin' familiar and it's weirding me out.

Yeah, so it turns out that it's Wendy Padbury, AKA Zoe Heriot, one of the Second Doctor's companions and Queen of Awesome Space Catsuits. What's especially disconcerting is that Padbury left Doctor Who in 1969, two years before the movie I'm watching was made.

Did I mention that Padbury was 23-24 in 1971?

(Anthony Ainley is also in this, but he's beardless and therefore I didn't recognize him without the IMDb telling me which character he was playing)

So I had Social Fail at the July 4th party I went to, which I feel guilty about, so I'm taking a cue from

qkellie and listing some stuff that makes me happy.

Having an apparently telepathic connection with my wife, wherein we are already in agreement on propositions that neither of us have brought up (i.e. whether to leave our stuff in boxes after the recent fiasco).
The best coffee in the Phoenix area is a flight of stairs away from my apartment.
Classic-Horror.com is back and better than ever.
Babylon 5 has been rocking more awesome into my world over the past month (just four episodes left in Season 4).
I have great friends who I love and trust.
My niece and I have a mutual admiration society going. She thinks I'm the bee's knees, man.
Doctor Who Season 5. I wasn't sure about it at first (and I'm still not 100% on Matt Smith), but Moffat makes me go, "Rusty who?"
Mandatory daily cuddles.
Being a member of the horror blogging community. These are some of the most intelligent, friendly, and down-to-earth people I've ever dealt with.
Watching "The Boy Who Left Home to Find Out About the Shivers" (an episode of Faerie Tale Theatre) for the first time in many, many years. It stars Peter MacNicol, Christopher Lee, David Warner, and Frank Zappa. Narration by Vincent Price. Fun times and just as delightful as I remember it being when I was much shorter.

Last night I watched the surviving episodes of "The Wheel in Space" as well as "The Mind Robber," based on some people's comments that the closest Doctor analog for Matt Smith is Patrick Troughton. I was already a Troughton fan from The Invasion and The Three Doctors, but I hadn't watched one of his serials in a while.

I can definitely see what folks are coming from. I mentally inserted Eleven into a number of different scenes and it is uncanny how much he resembles Two. Hopefully I'll be able to appreciate the next Who episode more now that I have better bearings on his performance.

Also, I love these heady days of off-the-cuff television production. Frazer Hines, apparently, had chicken pox during the filming of The Mind Robber, so in went a quick script fix where Jamie's face gets changed for an episode.

Current Mood: amused

echan and I have been wending our way through Bones (nearly through Season 4) and Dexter (slowly working on Season 2) over the past couple of weeks. Dexter is sheer brilliance and Bones is, well, Bones is love. It amuses me far more than it should (note that I rarely latch onto series without supernatural/sci-fi elements).

If somebody could point me to some good Bones icons, I would be much obliged.

I've also been eagerly awaiting the series finale of Lost. I stopped watching the show midway through Season 2, then picked it up again 3-4 months ago via Netflix Instant Watch. I've been on the painful weekly schedule for about two months now. How did you people do this for six years? Seriously.

New Doctor Who still has to impress me. The ( spoilers for those watching on BBC America )

I also caught the Nightmare on Elm Street remake in the theaters. ... Yeah, that's all I have to say about that.

I'm just not buying Matt Smith as 11. At all.

I'm pondering doing a "Horror on Who" vid for my monthly vid column at Classic-Horror. I'm using as many Doctors as I can. My problem is that there's way too much Classic Who for me to sift through and figure "Oh my, yeah, that's a horror/scary/particularly macabre episode."

So I turn to you folks. What are the really good "behind the couch" stories/moments?
