Patrick McGoohan passes away at the age of 80.

The Prisoner is my favorite television series of all time. It may be the greatest television series of all time. Certainly his Number 6 is one of the top television heroes. McGoohan not only starred The Prisoner, but he created the series, wrote many of the episodes, and directed a few as well. A fierce individualist, he used the series as a means of exploring the way technology and the "forward march" of society had made prisoners of us all.

I used the bare sketch of that for my most successful RP character to date -- a rebellious, prudish, and extremely paranoid teenage version of Number 6 at Fandom High ([ profile] defiantlyyours). Although I made some mockery of the concepts of the show, it was only out of the deepest love and respect for McGoohan and his creation.

Woke up, hit the snooze alarm.

Woke up again, took a shower, shaved. Checked my email. Found that I am incredibly popular on OKCupid with girls who cannot spell. Covered a class in Fandom High for someone who I hope is feeling better.

Had fudge for breakfast.

Remembered to take my meds and to pack a lunch.

Left for work early. Discovered awesome feature of new apartment is that the front door window lets me see if I forgot my glasses as I'm locking the door. Retrieved glasses, left for work again, still early.

Arrived to work with plenty of time. Started working immediately.

I want more mornings like this one.
jetpack_monkey: (The Doctor (10) - Why Are the Pants Gone)
Okay, I am wearing pants, but the title was so much more exciting with the pantsless insinuation.

I haven't posted in ten days. This makes me a bad person. I have reasons! Work has been busy, website work has been busy, roleplaying has been, well, biz-ay (Weiss/Ms. Parker OTP)! Also, Number 6 takes a lot of work to keep at his proper levels of assholery. And I think he has a thing for River Tam. Bad 6. No freedom.

Other than being insanely busy, there's not much going on. Been working through The Prisoner, Red Dwarf Season 6, and Battlestar Galactica 2.5 with the roomie.

And I have a cold today that sucks. And it smells like potential snow outside, which is a bit WTF because I live in Arizona. I'm not complaining, though,

Fandom High applications are open. As I know most of my friends list does not enjoy that RP thing, nor do they get into the wild and often dangerous world of having fun, I urge you to ignore this. You'd be setting yourself up for having an absolute blast and even ingesting the good crack.

So please. Think of the children. Don't apply to Fandom High. Especially not as any of the following characters:

Matt Parkman (Heroes)
Romana (Doctor Who)
Christopher Turk (Scrubs)
Hurley (Lost)
Arthur (The Tick)
Kryten (Red Dwarf)
Rimmer (Red Dwarf)
Rincewind (Discworld)
Jimmy Olsen (Superman Returns)
Carl Kolchak (the original Night Stalker series)
Charles Gunn (Angel)
Beaver Casablancas (Veronica Mars)
George Lass (Dead Like Me)
Mason (Dead Like Me)
Arthur Dent (HHGG)
Victor Frankenstein (Hammer horror)
Marten (Questionable Content)

That would just be too awesome. And we wouldn't want that.

Fandom High is a major part of the community structure of Livejournal. Check it out. Three community structures are used as examples, and Fandom High is one of them. I don't know if it's because we're the largest or because we're an example of a larger one, but it's pretty badass.

Stolen from a bunch of folks, most recently [ profile] theusual:

Always have a question for one of my characters but never had the chance or reason to ask? Now's the time! Ask any of my characters any question you want and they will answer it. No character or question limit. Knock yourselves out!

In the Sunnydale Socks (all Buffy/Angel), I have played Parker Abrams, Clem the Demon, and Charles Gunn. In Heroes (all Buffy/Angel), I played Gunn, Buffy, and Angel. In Fandom High, I played (hoo boy) Number 6 (The Prisoner), Rob Gordon (High Fidelity), Marshall Flinkman (Alias), Jack Bristow (Alias), Dewey Finn (first semester version, School of Rock), Miles Raymond (Sideways), Mickey Smith (Doctor Who), and Eric Weiss (Alias).

My two pups, Eric Weiss ([ profile] weissguy_) and Mickey Smith ([ profile] notthetindog) were just accepted for the 2006 Fall Semester at Fandom High. I'm such a geek to be so excited about this, especially since this is the game that drove my sanity into the ground 8 months ago.

But I just get to play this time and I don't have to worry about running the damn thing. I'm really looking forward to it.

Fandom High applications are open until the 21st. Fandom High -- Forming Special Minds for a Special Universe. It's a semi-crack RP (I say semi-crack because it's a big game with rules and therefore not "everything goes" but the idea of crack is still boldly there) where teen version of characters from various fandoms mingle and learn from other fandom characters.

The school used to be run by Jack Bristow (Alias, played by me) and Spider Jerusalem (Transmetropolitan), but is now in the capable hands of Zoe Washburne (Firefly), Hawkeye Pierce (M*A*S*H), and The Tick. Benton Fraser (Due South) handles security.

The game is much better run than it was in my day (and believe me, that's taking the wind out of my sails just a bit since I was the one running it then), and I'm told it's just as much fun.

Both teachers and students are being accepted, although I would really advise going in as a student first, because teaching can overwhelm if you don't have a feel for the game.

You should app. I did.

Some of ya'll may recall that back at the end of 2005, I co-ran a little RP called [ profile] fandomhigh (and occasionally ran ran, much to the consternation of my stress levels). This was an amazingly huge timesuck and prevented me from doing a lot of the things that I loved to do -- like actually watch fandom shows.

I'm starting to really cringe every Thursday morning after Lost and Veronica Mars have aired, because I haven't caught an episode since early November. I want to know what's going on, but I don't want to run out and just spoil myself, either.

At the same time, what with having the girlfriend and all, I just don't have the time to download and watch the shows. Pretty much, right now, I'm waiting for the seasonal DVDs to come out this summer and I'll catch up then.

But I'll be damned if I'm missing the new season of Doctor Who. No how, no way. No sirree.

Instead, I've been watching a metric crap-ton of films and guiding [ profile] midnightfae through the wonders of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

What I've been watching )

And in case you were wondering...

The Birthday Haul )

And done.

It's over. I have finished. Fandom High is now in the hands of others, and I have my life back.

I'm weirdly emotional right now.
jetpack_monkey: (Spydaddy - Thorough Planner)
Fandom High is now accepting applications for students. It's not first-come, first-served. The students will be chosen on the merits of their app, and only 20 will get in. If you think that's too much pressure, or if the app seems like too much work? Don't do it.

Now, why would I advertise openings in a game I'm leaving? Because I spent three months of my life working my ass off to get this game into a kind of shape where I think it's fun for everyone. People I talk to have loved playing and I love having them play. The more people who are having fun in [ profile] fandomhigh, the prouder I am of what [ profile] dhaunea and I accomplished during our reign.

Also, the new admins are freakin' awesome, and they deserve good players, and I know I have a lot of those types on my friendslist. So get to it, if you have the time for such an absorbing experience.

Speaking of, Principal Bristow just tendered his IG resignation last night after doing a omghard one-night-only stint at the mic on [ profile] fandom_radio. I'm gonna miss those guys.

Can a Holiday Pageant starring John Crichton, Callisto, Anders, Cally, Bridge Carson, Angel, Jaye Tyler, Anakin Skywalker, and Rory Gilmore (with costumes by The Tick, choreography by DEATH, and directed/produced/written by Jack Bristow) go oh so beautifully!
jetpack_monkey: (Tom Servo Lives!)
Tendered my Fandom High resignation today, effective in 2-2.5 weeks.

You know, when they say a massive weight has been lifted off your shoulders, they don't really mean that figuratively. There's really a pulling sensation. A refreshing, relaxing, pulling.

So. What the hell to do with myself after Christmas...

jetpack_monkey: (The Doctor - Oh Hells Yeah)
- There are nights when I just want to scoop the majority of FH up into a giganimous hug and squish them. Tonight is one of those nights.

- Rent was fairly awesome, although it lost its way towards the end and kind of scraped together a weak, lackluster ending as if to say "Um, well, I guess that will do for now. We'll think of something better later." The stage musical, based on what I recall from the Cast Recording, is much the same. In any case, I want to be Mark Cohen.

- I am so caffeinated right now... Let me tell you.

- Generic Non-Denominational Winter Holiday presents go to 11.
