If you're on Dreamwidth and posting there regularly, please let me know and I will start following you over there. I'm getting a little sick of the LJ downtimes, especially when I want to catch up with my friends' lives.

LJ Backup

Jan. 6th, 2009 12:26 pm
jetpack_monkey: (The Doctor (10)/Martha - Muppets)
I've backed up my LiveJournal to InsaneJournal (username jetpackmonkey -- note the lack of underscore). I'm not overly concerned about the reported LJ layoffs, but I am a firm believer in maintaining backups.

Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] empressvesica -- post the first line of your first post from each month of the year.

January: As very special presents for our shiny new 2008, [livejournal.com profile] midnightfae and I were both given nasty cases of viral gastroenteritis.

February: Previous part is here. (referring to my SPN/Doctor Who crossover fic)

March: So, Mario Bava Retrospective at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood.

April: Much as this might seem like an April Fool's joke to those "in the know", it's not.

May: For those who might not know, I have an icon journal at [livejournal.com profile] jetpackvampire, which I share with [livejournal.com profile] qkellie.

June: My speculation? (talking about "Silence in the Library")

July: I was watching Father's Day to get clips for my vid, specifically the scene where Pete and Rose are talking in the car on the way to the wedding.

August: This is why I love Neil Patrick Harris.

September: Using Google's Chrome browser, which is kind of awesome.

October: Zombie Scavenger Hunt went well.

November: I picked up Boa vs. Python at the grocery story for no discernible reason other than it was $10, has David Hewlett as the leading man, and its the film that gave rise to the equally large boa meme.

December: See icon. (the icon was 10 saying, "I'm off my meds!")

*clings to LJ*

Don't ever leave me again.

Made a slight tweak to my layout to add a little old school classiness to it. Classic horror films for the win.

Dammit LJ

jetpack_monkey: (The Doctor (10) - Coffee Dammit)
One of the CSS files for my layout has up and disappeared from LJ's server and now my journal is broken.

It's almost enough to make you go Insane.

ETA: Fixed now.
jetpack_monkey: (Princess Bride - You Keep Using That...)
So the 24-Hour LJ Strike is set to start at 5:00PM Thursday for Pacific Time/Arizona. I'm pretty sure I'm going to need to post within that time (trust me -- it's been a weird week). Also, I don't particularly care that the basic accounts have been eliminated in favor of the Plus -- LJ is a business and that business needs money to operate.

Also, am I the only one who finds it curious that there's a strike going on to demonstrate to the advertisers the power of the LJ user base... so that we can get ad-free LJs? Somewhere that logic doesn't line up.

I'll admit the "top interests" snafu sucked, but it's been rectified now. At this point, LJ functions largely as I expect it to.

I'm not going anywhere, but I do realize I have a few extra journals floating around. I can be found on the following services under the following usernames:

Greatjournal: jetpackmonkey
Insanejournal: jetpackmonkey
Vox: jetpackmonkey
JournalFen: mystic_misfit (only used for commenting on fandom_wank)

Other LJ journals:
[livejournal.com profile] lanky_writing - used for all my non-fanfiction writing. Mostly dormant except in November.
[livejournal.com profile] jetpackvampire - icon journal/comm, shared with [livejournal.com profile] qkellie
[livejournal.com profile] chorror_rss - RSS for Classic-Horror.com. Will actually begin updating again after June 15th.
[livejournal.com profile] _callmelanky_ - ancient history. Old LJ. Dropped as a dramatic gesture, announcing a new chapter in my life. Rename tokens are much more useful, I've found.

Other Websites:
MonkeysWithJetpacks.com - my personal site
Classic-Horror.com - my horror movie website
Fandomhigh.net - made for the good folks at [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh
Genre-Commentary.com - edited by [livejournal.com profile] qkellie, published and (poorly) designed by me. Hopefully we should see some motion in this again soon.
Woxy Lists - My WIP site that tracks WOXY's Top 500 Songs of All Time Lists. I still need to do some significant data cleanup. Eventually it'll probably move to Drupal since Drupal is GOD. Right now it's just a little PHP script with a MySQL DB backend.
jetpack_monkey: (Weiss - HA! PWNED!)
Well, they've apologized. Sort of. There's some doubletalk in there that I don't like, but it's a step in the right direction. You don't fuck with fandom. We've read too many dystopian novels/fics and we know all the tricks.

In other words: bitch, please.
jetpack_monkey: (Josie - With Squares)
I friended [livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs ages and ages ago because of her brilliant, 100,000+ word fic Living History, which I recommend then, I recommend today, and I will recommend probably forever. It's the single best fanfiction I've ever read. Period.

However, [livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs's journal contains way more than fic. She's a former journalist with a social justice streak a mile wide and she's not afraid to show it. Usually, she's after politicians who would diminish our personal freedoms for a little security (making us less free and less secure).

Right now, she's tracking the efforts of a group called Warriors for Innocence (although it may just be one very vocal person from what I can see). They're pressuring LJ/Six Apart to purge journals with interests like "rape", "incest", "child abuse", etc. They're doing so without oversight and without understanding. Many of these journals/communities are fannish, and are read and run by people who would never dream of such acts except in a fictional context (which is their right, I should add, even if I don't like it). WfI's complete lack of understanding is underlined when they refer to the journals/comms as "web pages" and not, say, journals or communities.

Links to all of Liz's posts on the subject, plus the efforts of others can be found at this round-up entry. I urge you to read as much of it as possible, especially [livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs's correspondence with a rep for Warriors for Innocence. It's very enlightening.

While most of us are content to nod our heads or just blow steam when we hear about this kind of crap, [livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs is doing something. She went straight to the source and asked for answers and she got them. For that alone, she has my undying respect.
jetpack_monkey: (JD & Turk - Nothing Gay)
I was poking through my memories when I found a two-year-old exchange betwixt [livejournal.com profile] hjcallipygian and I where we discuss zombie college bands and Comic-Con.

I still want to make that movie.
jetpack_monkey: (The Doctor (10) - Textbook Enigmatic)
[livejournal.com profile] kenobi made me a fabulous new layout. You should check it out because it wins at layouts.

In other news, my father continues to be a self-involved, socially self-destructive drama queen. I gave him the news about the new baby girl, aka my niece, aka his granddaughter and his response was a backhanded congrats and three lines of how much it hurts him omg to be cut out of the lives of my sister and I.

This is the man I thought was a giant, a god... the man who was always right and couldn't lose. He makes me sad, but not enough to drag down the joyful fun of having my very own niece.

Damn You LJ

How am I supposed to brag about breaking 11,000 words on my NaNo if you're down all freakin' day. I had to post it to my Vox and dude, nobody reads that.
jetpack_monkey: (Default)
I can't imagine I'm the only one spamming LJ to test TXTLJ.

Flist Cut

Jul. 25th, 2006 09:52 am
jetpack_monkey: (Cliff - Do It Logan)
Made an flist cut in an effort to keep my reading tidier (especially since I am loathe to use viewing filters).

Oh. And on Thursday, I told my father to never call me again. That was interesting.
jetpack_monkey: (Michelle - Insult Hurler)
Lifted wholesale from [livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs:

Go to http://www.livejournal.com/admin/console and type in set disable_nudge 1 to turn off the intrusive and frankly quite silly "nudge" feature.

Or cut and paste it from this entry.

Pass it on.
jetpack_monkey: (Adherent of the Repeated Meme - Lemming!)
Subject line has nothing to do with the post. Just thought I'd remind everyone.

Went through and reorganized my tags. [livejournal.com profile] hjcallipygian may be more organized than me still, but at least I'm catching up. Still have to go back and retroactively retag my entries to reflect their proper categories, but at least the tags are in place. Plus, I'm using a layout that lists all of my tags (squinches the content a bit too, but I'll deal).
