Well, they've apologized. Sort of. There's some doubletalk in there that I don't like, but it's a step in the right direction. You don't fuck with fandom. We've read too many dystopian novels/fics and we know all the tricks.

In other words: bitch, please.

I'm concerned by some of the double-talk and legalese in there, but you're right. It's a step in the right direction.

(I saw in one of the comments there that someone had a text icon that simply said "Dear LJ: 1984 is not an instruction manual" - summed it up for me!)

A bunch of people in my life are like "Oh, it's not that big of a deal and everyone is just loving all the drama." That might be true, but I really, earnestly see LJ as a little microcosm. And now that this is garnering so much attention, maybe the groundwork has been lain for looking at other issues that are just as, if not moreso, nefarious. Homeland Security, for instance. Can't you see me using LJ as context?

"Okay, so, like, Homeland Security. You remember LJ Strikethrough '07?"

"Imagine it wasn't about fucking lolis or fucking Harry Potter. Imagine instead of being branded a pedo, you were branded a terrorist. And instead of someone named 'ilovedaddyscock' it was YOU. And they didn't just delete your LiveJournal, they locked you up."

I appreciate everyone's passion. I just really wish people could get this up in arms about national politics. I guess the difference here is that we spoke up and LJ heard. No one hears us in our national government.
