jetpack_monkey: (Comic-Con - Can You Geek It?)
I am very sad that I'm not going to Comic-Con this year, but there's a number of very good reasons (including just needing a year off) why this must be so. I'm still going to miss the hell out of my friends and all the cool stuff (and the McFarland booth -- oh you lovely McFarland booth). I usually take, like, a billion pictures at Con every year and I keep all the ones that don't turn out to be insanely fuzzy.

So here's what I need from my friends who are going. Lots and lots of pictures, video, audio recordings, daily logs -- anything that will help me feel the Con experience vicariously. I'll try to post a daily reminder where you can dump links of media you've uploaded, squee posts, etc. Have friends going to Con? Encourage them to do the same! If you have my phone number, text me (or call me anytime after 6PM PST) and squee at me about how you just stumbled into Misha Collins's personal space. With any luck, it won't feel like I've missed a year when I'm back in San Diego next July.

[livejournal.com profile] midnightfae has just done a write-up on the Dr. Horrible screening from Friday night, with some pictures from Yours Truly attached. The Comic-Con Experience: Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.

Read and love (and link?).

Did anybody happen to get a photo of Jamie Bamber at Con this year? I totally neglected to take one for my interview with him.

ETA: And the Dexter panel. Our reporter-on-the-spot ran out of space on her recorder and we need a general run-down of the points discussed.

I have discovered that one of the poster tubes that we returned home with isn't ours. Poster tube contains one DC Universe Online poster, one Max Payne poster, and one Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe poster.

Anybody who lived in/visited our hotel room have a claim on this tube of video gaming craziness?

I am drunk. I had 2 (two) ciders and now I am blitΩed (I somehow put a greek character in there -- omega... it's the endoftheworld omg). Anyway.

Comic-Con is fun. I have already spent too much money at the McFarland Books booth (they know me on sight now, which is a bit scary).

Also, I LOVE MY FRIENDS. I love seeing them again. They are awesome. Awesome and sauce. Awesomesauce.

And I bought Ricki-oh.

Heeee.

Just something shy of 40 hours before we're on the road to San Diego...

Just something shy of 35 minutes until I'm out of work for a week and a day.

I'm freakin' stoked.

ETA: And I'm out. G'bye, work, see you next week. San Diego, here I come...

Lots of great interview opportunities coming in for Classic-Horror this year. Can't name any names in a post, but they're insanely cool.

I need to do some quick news posts this weekend, clear off the loooong list of DVD releases I really should've posted about earlier. And also do the usual "see you at Comic-Con" post.

Just one more hour and one more day of work and then I'm off.

I'm just bursting with excitement. BURSTING.
jetpack_monkey: (Kermit & Fozzie - They Fight Crime)
I have been insufferably high-spirited and productive this week. [livejournal.com profile] midnightfae was about ready to kill me this morning around 8AM when I started coming up with all sorts of different wacky nicknames for Drew Goddard.

So now's as good a time as any to get out the ol' to-do list of to-doom.

Stuff to get done before Comic-Con )

The Powers That Are at Comic-Con have apparently pulled the 2008 schedule offline. I was a little suspicious that this might happen as there weren't any links to it on the mainsite.

Good thing I already Google calendared the stuff I wanted to go to.
jetpack_monkey: (The Doctor (9) - Spoiler Rage)
I am determined to avoid (further) spoilers for this week's Doctor Who, so I'm signing off the Internets for the next six hours.

Also, my cunning Comic-Con plan has fallen through due to logistics. Next year, definitely, though.

- Latest episode of Doctor Who is made of total win. I kind of want to read some Agatha Christie now. Maybe after I finish my Tour of Sci-Fi in 2010. Donna Noble may be surpassing Martha Jones as my favorite New!Who companion.

- Been watching classic Twilight Zone episodes to research an article for Classic-Horror. Watching Telly Savalas match wits with a creepy doll is kind of unnerving. Watching William Shatner actually act rather than rely on his own sense of self-satisfaction is REALLY unnerving.

- In the world of Harry Dresden, I have finished Summer Knight and have moved on to Death Masks. Summer Knight ended much better than it started. I'm kind of hoping that Death Masks will be the same, although comments from [livejournal.com profile] midnightfae don't give me a lot of hope.

- [livejournal.com profile] midnightfae warned me that Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation would be a painful experience. I didn't believe that it could approach Orgy of the Dead levels of suffering. I have suffered for my incredulity. The only bright spot is that Matthew McConaughey plays an surprisingly effective psychopath.

- Speaking of The Twilight Zone, I wrote a joke opening paragraph for the Japanese movie Jigoku (Hell) where I mock Sartre and high school students who get their interpretation of Sartre entirely from the last line of No Exit. I showed it to [livejournal.com profile] midnightfae because I thought she'd get a kick out of it and then tell me to write something serious. She told me to go with the joke opening because it totally worked. Weeeeeird.

- Indiana Jones cereal is like eating Chocolate Kix with Marshmallows.

- Went to one-half of an Indy marathon at [livejournal.com profile] desertwillow's place yesterday. Ending up reading the Gospel of 100 F**king Tacos in my very best Christopher Lee. And got smacked for a comment about "Snakes on a Flame".

- My kitty is getting a tooth out today, as well as getting a lion cut. There will be pictures.

- [livejournal.com profile] timjr wrote the definitive squee on Robert Fuest's The Abominable Dr. Phibes. Read it. Love it. It makes me want to wander off and review its immediate sequel, Dr. Phibes Rises Again, which contains an elaborate Henry James joke.

- [livejournal.com profile] midnightfae and I kept getting stuck in really painful gigglefits all weekend for no reason we can discern. One of us would start giggling and the other would continue and then we would keep fueling each other. People who were in the condo at Comic-Con last July will remember what this is like.

- Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is eating what remains of my free time. In a way, it's kind of lucky that my girlfriend is in China, because I think this would annoy the crap out of her. I blame [livejournal.com profile] hjcallipygian.

- Two months and one week until Comic-Con.

So, some of you know I've been on a quest for a new MacBook Pro. This has been made more difficult by the fact that my budget this year can handle either said MacBook or Comic-Con. Since I need the MacBook FOR Comic-Con, this clearly would not work. So I applied for credit. Denied. So I took Mom with me to apply for credit at the Apple Store today...

And they're still processing.

How hard is it to give me a laptop, people? Really! I just want to be able to run multiple programs at once without feeling like my computer is going to go into core meltdown.

Mom's promised to call me the minute she hears back from the nice credit people. I will have you, MacBook Pro. Oh yes, I will have you.

Geez macreeze, I am busy. In addition to getting back into the swing of things at work, I'm still working on getting all those interviews transcribed and those features written. I'm halfway through getting the interview with Hatchet director Adam Green typed up, then I'm doing Robert Englund, and then I'm still working out what to do with the other Hatchet interviews.

Then I have to:

* Write up the Sideshow Collectibles feature
* Figure out what to do with my ridiculously poor (on my part) interview with Tyler Mane.
* Work with Julia to get the Daniel Myrick coverage up, as well as the Return to House on Haunted Hill, The Strangers, Doomsday, "The Film Crew", and Monster Squad.

All while still working on editing (and maybe, if I'm a very good boy, writing) reviews.

*collapses*

It doesn't help that I've started a game of Kingdom Hearts on the new PS2 and I'm itching to get back to it.
jetpack_monkey: (The Doctor (3) - Reverse the Polarity)
For your SG-1 fannish pleasure: 400 pictures from the Stargate SG-1 panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2007.

There's a LOT of Christopher Judge and Robert Cooper because they did the most talking.

All of these pictures are reduced -- if you want the full version of a particular one, let me know.
jetpack_monkey: (Comic-Con - Can You Geek It?)
I'm home. *collapses*

I need a new bookcase for all the McFarland books I picked up at 50% (or more) off cover.

I need more DVD shelves, too.

And some place to put my TARDIS.

And new legs. I would like some new legs.

I think I'm coming down with something (seriously). Might have to call in tomorrow.

ETA: The most disturbing thing ever )
jetpack_monkey: (The Doctor (5) - Dork)
At the coffeehouse, running a little behind, but ready to embark on that magical journey to the land of San Diego.

Squee.
jetpack_monkey: (Comic-Con - Can You Geek It?)
To commemorate my anticipated arrival in San Diego in roughly 48 hours, I have created 10 Comic-Con geek icons, available over at [livejournal.com profile] jetpackvampire.

That is all. I should start my laundry now.
