UPDATE FINAL: The rec festival is closed to new entries. Now go nominate some fandoms!

Update, 2013/09/12: The masterlist has been reorganized by media type (movies, television, web/other). Probable safeties are noted with a "*".

Update, 2013/09/04:  Festivids nominations open on September 20th, so the recs festival will close on September 20th. Plenty of time to get your recs in!

--

It has returned! The unofficial Pre-Festivids Fandom Rec Festival is here!

What the heck is the Pre-Festivids Fandom Rec Festival?

I am glad you asked! Let's start with the basics!

[community profile] festivids is an annual vid exchange for small fandoms. Think Yuletide, but for fanvids! I couldn't possibly get into the full description here, so take it away, community profile page.

Last year, [personal profile] trelkez / [livejournal.com profile] trelkez had a great idea that maybe we should do some sort of rec festival ahead of time. In the month leading up to Festivids fandom nominations, we list some of the fandoms/sources we're thinking about requesting, so we can all watch them ahead of time and go, "Hell yeah I could make a vid out of that" or "OMG THIS IS THE BEST, someone should make me a vid!" and then offer/request said fandoms.

Sounds great! How do I participate?

Leave a comment in this post (either the Dreamwidth or Livejournal variety) with the name of a fandom you're thinking about offering and/or requesting. If there's multiple possible versions, be sure to be specific (leaving a link to an IMDb or Wikipedia page is useful).

You can also leave a quick description (1-2 sentences) of why the source is awesome and I'll add that to the fandom's entry in Festival master list. If there's a longer description, I may pluck out a short teaser and then link to the rest of the comment.

Example:

Raumpatrouille / Space Patrol Orion
-- This is an amazing black & white space adventure series from West Germany that aired around the same time as Star Trek. It has a semi-serialized storyline, crazy visuals, a lovable cast of characters (including Commander McLane, who is the King of Snark), and it's easy to get into because it only has seven episodes!

So comment away and I'll add your recs to the list behind the cut below.

MASTERLIST

* Denotes a (potential) safety

Movies

* Aelita: Queen of Mars (1924) -- A Soviet social drama cum science fiction adventure, Aelita is one of the earliest full-length films about space travel, most notable for its constructivist Martian costume and set design, which influenced many later science fiction films. (Unlike many silent films, it's easily obtainable in excellent condition, having been restored frame-by-frame and uploaded to Archive.org.) [[personal profile] thirdblindmouse ]

Alice Guy-Blaché (the work of) -- Once nearly forgotten, Gaumont has released a dvd collection of her earliest short films. The first director to do narrative story telling, one of the first to work with sound, she was one of the most important film makers up to around 1922. [[personal profile] valoise ]

* Almost Famous -- When I was younger, I felt like I was William Miller, a misunderstood teenager with a hopeless crush on a mysterious girl. Now if I could've only been hired by Rolling Stone to follow around a mid-level rock band in 1973. [[personal profile] jetpack_monkey ]

* Alphaville: A Strange Adventure of Lemmy Caution -- Jean-Luc Godard doing science fiction dystopian noir. A hardboiled detective engages in oblique combat against a totalitarian computer in a futuristic vision of Paris. [[personal profile] seekingferret ]

* The Body Snatcher (1945) -- Two men -- a lowly graverobber (Boris Karloff) and a famous surgeon (Henry Daniell) -- are locked in a relationship from which there is no escape. Each man loathes the other as much as he needs him, for, in many senses, they are two bodies with only the one soul between them (and a badly damaged, tarnished soul at that). [[personal profile] jetpack_monkey ]

* Chariots of Fire (1981): outstanding, award-winning film about the British track team for the 1924 Olympics, and what motivates them to run and to live their lives as they do. One of my favorite movies. [[personal profile] fiercynn ]

* Contact (movie, 1997) -- A very interesting sci-fi movie about the first contact with extraterrestrials, based on Carl Sagan's novel, starring the amazing Jodie Foster. The story is full of feelings, drama and creative fantasy. [[livejournal.com profile] valika56 ]

Death of a Superhero [2011] -- a teenager draws comics to try and escape his real life, where he has terminal cancer. he starts to see a psychiatrist to deal with everything. absolutely gorgeous & vidabble movie, starring thomas brodie-sangster & andy serkis [[livejournal.com profile] tearful_eye ]

* Deep Blue Sea -- DNA experimented sharks go after people in a sinking research facility! It's enjoyable and fun and not as predictable as you'd think. [[livejournal.com profile] kiki_miserychic ]

* Eyes Wide Open -- Beautiful, anguished Israeli film about two Hasidic men, deeply enmeshed in their extremely conservative community, who fall in love. As soon as I finished watching it, I thought about vidding it. [[livejournal.com profile] alba17 ]

* The Heat (2013) - buddy cop movie, only the buddy cops are women and it's AWESOME. Still playing in theaters! Hilarious and tense and all the slashy vibes you could ever want. Great characters, solid characterization, fun actiony visuals to play with. DO WANT. [[personal profile] laurashapiro ]

* The History Boys (2006) -- Fantastic film based on Alan Bennett's play (and featuring the original stage cast) about seven working-class boys in the 1980s who are trying to get into Oxford and Cambridge to read history, and a few very different teachers who influence them along the way. Alternately heart-warming and heart-breaking, hilariously witty and thought-provoking, complete with pretty boys, poetry, singing, and Frances de la Tour. Oh, and did I mention the queerness? SO. MUCH. QUEERNESS. [[personal profile] fiercynn ]

The Howling (1981) -- A werewolf romp which manages to be scary and emotionally gripping while keeping its tongue firmly lodged in its cheek. This film was a huge influence on me as a teenager and is one of the primary reasons I love werewolves so much. [[personal profile] jetpack_monkey ]

* Kinky Boots (2005) -- Now a hit musical, this was originally a lovely film starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Joel Edgerton, and Sarah-Jane Potts, about a shoe factory in England that starts making boots for drag queens to keep from going out of business. [[personal profile] fiercynn ]

* Mad Love (1935) -- The classic tale The Hands of Orlac (injured pianist gets hand transplant from executed murderer, finds his new hands have a mind of their own) gets injected with themes of obsessive love and sadomasochism. Peter Lorre pretty much owns this film as the brilliant and insane surgeon Dr. Gogol. [[personal profile] jetpack_monkey ]

* The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance -- Is there any way to watch this John Ford-directed Western and not see the slashiness between the John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart characters? With Vera Miles, it becomes OT3 goodness! [[personal profile] jetpack_monkey ]

* Moses und Aron - A 1975 French film of Schoenberg's atonal opera Moses und Aron. Its set is a stark and mostly empty desert landscape and it uses long shots and slow pans to create a suspended sense of time for its Biblical narrative about faith and its discontents. [[personal profile] seekingferret ]

Night Watch (and its sequel, Day Watch) -- Russian fantasy thriller set in a present day cold war between the supernatural forces of light and darkness. The films are full of cynical bureaucratic compromise, tense and sometimes video game-like action, vortices of crows circling silently overhead, Very Important chalk, blood drunk with vodka, dolls that walk on spider legs, and awkwardly timed bodyswap. [[personal profile] thirdblindmouse ]

* Shadow of a Doubt (1943) -- Somewhat lesser-remembered Hitchcock film (though reportedly his favorite) in which a young woman discovers that her beloved uncle may have deadly secrets and begins to investigate. Creepy and fun. [[personal profile] sweetestdrain ]

* Stoker -- It's like Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt if the girl, instead of trying to turn her murderous uncle over to the police, wondered if perhaps she should join him... some really amazing cinematography and visual parallels. Stars Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode, and Nicole Kidman. [[personal profile] sweetestdrain ]

* Tampopo (1985) -- The ultimate foodie movie, it centers around a noodle restaurant owner's search for the perfect ramen. With a cowboy truck driver and random food and/or sex scenes. [[personal profile] valoise ]

The Thin Man series -- I didn't know this is what I wanted my whole life: a classic film series about an epically drunk, epically happy married couple who solve mysteries and snark at each other. And a bit with a dog. [[personal profile] jetpack_monkey ]

* Trouble with the Curve -- Stars Clint Eastwood as a baseball scout. It's got a schmoopy father-daughter plot that makes me gooey. Also, when watching all the fabulous League of Their Own vids last year, it made me want more baseball films. [[personal profile] colls ]

* Usagi Drop (live-action movie) -- The IMDB page makes it look like this is an anime, the movie is not though it is based on the original anime/manga. The movie chronicles Daikichi as he takes in Rin, the 6 year old daughter of his grandfather. Hijinks, family bonding, and contemplation on life and loss ensue. It's a wonderful portrayal of building family, adorable and sweet and generally keeping with the feel of the original show. [[livejournal.com profile] rhea314 ]

* Versus -- The forest that the yakuza has been using as a dumping ground for bodies turns out to be the 444th (of 666) portal to hell, The Forest of Resurrection. To quote Rolling Stone, Versus is a "Japanese zombies-vs.-gangsters action-horror comedy that plays like Quentin Tarantino remaking THE EVIL DEAD while on a speed binge." [[personal profile] jetpack_monkey ]

* The Whip and the Body (1963) -- Christopher Lee wields the whip in a sadomasochistic relationship that gets even more fucked up later for spoilery reasons. Director Mario Bava mixes his usual fantastic use of color and shadow with some very evocative phallic and yonic imagery. [[personal profile] jetpack_monkey ]

* Warm Bodies -- The recent zom-rom-com. The trailer got me interested, and I enjoyed the film's lurching approach to romance. For nothing else, wouldn't you be interested to see John Malcovich turn in a restrained performance as the militant leader of a group of humans? [[personal profile] grammarwoman ]

* Witchfinder General (1968) -- Vincent Price gives a tour de force performance as a fictionalized version of Matthew Hopkins, a witch-hunter responsible for the deaths of hundreds of women accused of witchcraft between 1644 and 1647. This is a brutal, difficult film focused on the monstrosity of humankind and how our cruelty to each other begets only more cruelty. [[personal profile] jetpack_monkey ]

Television

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson -- a russian sherlock holmes adaption from the 197s/80s, starring the cutest holmes and watson ever. [[livejournal.com profile] tearful_eye ]

The Adventures of Tintin -- the 1990s animated show that provided some of the most faithful adaptations of Hergé's work. Belgian boy reporter goes on crazy adventures (to Scotland, South America, Tibet, even the MOON) with his faithful dog Snowy and his BFF Captain Haddock. [[personal profile] sweetestdrain ]

American Gothic (TV) -- Someone's got to also adore the extreme creepy factor of a town under the sway of a demonic sheriff, a menacing performance by Gary Cole. [[personal profile] grammarwoman ]

Bletchley Circle -- A fantastic PBS thriller mini-series about four women who worked as code-breakers for the British during WWII. The series follows what happened to the women after the war and their efforts to catch a serial killer. Moody, mysterious, and fantastic clothing! [[livejournal.com profile] rokikurama ]

Bob's Burgers -- Do you want to watch a totally hilarious cartoon where the characters are more human than actual actors, varied comedy, that's sex positive, and where the wife isn't the butt of half the jokes? Then watch Bob's Burgers. [[livejournal.com profile] kiki_miserychic ]

Carnivàle -- American Batshit Gothic. Dorothea Lange meets David Lynch. Amy Madigan is life-changing. [[personal profile] thatyourefuse ]

* Danger 5 -- Australian action-comedy about an international team of '60s super-spies trying to kill Hitler and stop his plans for world domination. Only seven 25 minute episodes of genius. [[personal profile] seekingferret ]

Dragons: Riders of Berk -- i'm never quite sure what the actual name of the show is, but it's the very cute and fun continuation of 'how to train your dragon'. an animated series. [[livejournal.com profile] tearful_eye ]

The Fades -- An epic, slow burning save the world while everything looks like a beautiful fever dream kind of British tv series. [[livejournal.com profile] kiki_miserychic ]

Game On (UK TV series) -- It's one of those awesome small-ensemble British comedies, about three flatmates. More information in the detailed comment. [[personal profile] littleheaven ]

Good Eats -- A science-oriented cooking show with whimsy and puppets. Why aren't there any Good Eats vids? [[personal profile] valoise ]

Graceland (USA TV series) -- I love this new show about a group of undercover federal agents who live together, starring Aaron Tveit and Daniel Sunjata. Action and intrigue with plenty of angst about how to navigate life and relationships when you can't tell anyone who you really are, against the backdrop of beachy LA and beautiful people. [[livejournal.com profile] alba17 ]

Heroes of Cosplay -- A mostly-female syfy reality show about pro, competitive cosplayers on the con circuit. I love the mix of personalities and the creativity. [[livejournal.com profile] bradcpu ]

The Hour -- A show about BBC journalists in the 1950s, in the sense that Moby Dick is a book about a big whale. Brilliant. And pure eye candy. [[personal profile] thatyourefuse ]

The Listener (TV)  -- This is a Canadian series, currently in its 4th season, about a telepathic paramedic moonlighting as a police consultant who is coming to terms with his abilities and how to use them for good. The show has changed dramatically from season to season, but it's always pretty and feel-good. Vids are required!! [[livejournal.com profile] starrylizard ]

Longmire -- A currently airing TV series on A&E (2 seasons so far). It's a modern day western and has some beautiful vistas and compelling characters. Cowboy poetry. [[personal profile] colls ]

Mad Dogs -- a british series starring john simm & philip glenister about four friends going on vacation together and getting into more trouble than they can handle. kinda dark sometimes, but also a lot of fun. [[livejournal.com profile] tearful_eye ]

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries -- miss fisher is a sassy lady detective in 1920s melbourne. there is a lot of detecting and dancing and gorgeous wardrobes. [[livejournal.com profile] tearful_eye ]

NTSF:SD:SUV:: -- It's what Karen Gillan, Eliza Dushku, Summer Glau, Kate Mulgrew, Rebecca Romijn, Aubrey Plaza, and Ray Liotta have in common. Beyond that, it defies description so I'll just point to this. That's the show. [[livejournal.com profile] bradcpu ]

Peacemakers
-- A short-lived western (it lasted nine episodes) set in the 1890s, as the Old West was starting to fade away and the modern era was beginning to gain a foothold. The main characters are Jared Stone, a federal marshal and Civil War veteran; Larimer Finch, a former Pinkerton detective who trained with Scotland Yard and is familiar with the forensic science of the time; and Katie Owen, a medical school drop-out turned mortician -- together, they solve crime! [[personal profile] settiai ]

Perception (TV series) -- A TNT show starring Eric McCormack as a doctor of neurology who is also a paranoid schizophrenic. His ex-student Katie Moretti is an FBI agent who asks for his assistance with cases. Trying to summarise it makes it sound like just another in a long list of 'eccentric genius white guy solves crimes with his eccentricities', but it has a lot of heart and deals with mental illness in very awesome ways. Full comment here. [[personal profile] leanwellback ]

Phineas & Ferb -- Where are the vids, for that amazing, I-can't-believe-it's-Disney animated show about two step-brothers with unlimited creativity (and funding), their pet platypus with a secret life as a super spy, his bumbling nemesis Dr. Doofenshmirtz, and the rest of their zany group of family and friends? Every week has one or more musical numbers in a different style, and the continuity is insane. Won't someone think of the children? [[personal profile] grammarwoman ]

Queen Seondeok -- A good show, you should watch it. It's very short. You could finish it in a day ... if you watched it at 4x speed and maybe didn't sleep much. [[personal profile] shati ]

The Queen's Classroom (2013 K-Drama) -- Sixth grade class gets teacher from hell. This is a soothing and lighthearted show that will definitely not make you claw at your head in agony as you try to figure out what your feelings are doing. (I'm not sure I'd recommend it to anyone who finds bullying especially painful to watch though, to stop lying for a minute...) [[personal profile] shati ]

Raumpatrouille / Space Patrol Orion -- This is an amazing black & white space adventure series from West Germany that aired around the same time as Star Trek. It has a semi-serialized storyline, crazy visuals, a lovable cast of characters (including Commander McLane, who is the King of Snark), and it's easy to get into because it only has seven episodes! [[personal profile] jetpack_monkey ]

Scott & Bailey -- Female cops solve crime by doing all their paperwork and being really good at interviewing people, and also have wonderful complicated supportive relationships. [[personal profile] thatyourefuse ]

Suburban Shootout -- Action/gangster movie parody in which all the salient characters are affluent middle-aged British housewives. Like Hot Fuzz, in a way, but with 10000% more lesbian subtext. [[personal profile] thatyourefuse ]

Sungkyunkwan Scandal -- Crossdressing Joseon Dynasty romcom. Kim Yoon Hee accidentally gets herself admitted to Sungkyunkwan University as a male scholar, hijinks enthusiastically ensue. Funny and endearing hijinks starring attractive people. [[personal profile] shati ]

Tierra de Lobos -- A Spanish historical western set in the late 19th century, this show is best known in the English-language show for the canon lesbian romance between Isabel Lobo and Cristina in the second season. But the whole show is worth watching for the other awesome characters and relationships! Fandom primer here to get you started. [[personal profile] fiercynn ]

A Touch of Cloth -- A Touch of Cloth is a British television comedy police procedural series. It is a parody of British detective and crime dramas, and stars John Hannah and Suranne Jones. The title is a play on the title of another detective series, A Touch of Frost, as well as the vulgar British euphemism "to touch cloth". [[livejournal.com profile] hollywoodgrrl ]

Whodunnit -- A ridiculous murder mystery reality show. Beautiful corpses created by the guys who do special effects for CSI. [[personal profile] seekingferret ]

Wolf Lake -- A tragically short-lived werewolf soap opera/murder mystery (Desperate Housewolves?), starring an absolute ton of people you'll recognize. [[personal profile] grammarwoman ]

Workaholics -- Three piece of shit that dropped out of college, live together, and "work" at a telemarketing company. It's so terrible, but it's so funny. [[livejournal.com profile] kiki_miserychic ]

Web Series/Other

Cracked: After Hours -- A web series in which four Cracked.com writers (Daniel O'Brien, Michael Swaim, Soren Bowie, and Katie Willert) sit around in a diner after work and have hilarious arguments about various media and nerdy and pop culture things. On the surface these are a bunch of funny, meta, 5-7 minute videos that stand on their own, but once you keep watching, you realize that the characters also have really awesome relationships and backstory. Fandom primer here! [[personal profile] fiercynn ]

Hey Ash Whatcha Playin
-- Web series starring real life siblings Ash and Anthony Burch, and their family. It's sort of a series of hilarious 2-min comedy skits about video games, but it's really more about geek culture and social commentary. [[livejournal.com profile] bradcpu ]

* The Other Side: a Supernatural fanfilm (written by [personal profile] astolat and directed by [personal profile] counteragent!) to replace the season 3 finale, wherein Sam and Dean get hit with a curse that turns them biologically female. Well-written, fantastically acted, and very well made for a low-budget fanfilm. It's pretty much everything I wanted from the original show - I've been broken up with that fandom for at least three years, and I still had a plethora of feelings when I first watched this a few months ago.  [[personal profile] fiercynn ]

Penny Arcade Strip Search -- Because your fanvid didn't have enough go-carting. [[personal profile] seekingferret ]

I'm still working on the rest of my nominations, but I definitely know one so far:

Peacemakers - A short-lived western (it lasted nine episodes) set in the 1890s, as the Old West was starting to fade away and the modern era was beginning to gain a foothold.

If someone wants to watch the show, it's available on Hulu. *cough* Also, because source is difficult to find unless you've been in the fandom since it aired in 2003 like the approximately five of us in the fandom, a post might be appearing in the [livejournal.com profile] peacemakers community on LJ in the near future that would be of interest to any potential vidders.

Probably I will also nominate

Whodunnit, a ridiculous murder mystery reality show. Beautiful corpses created by the guys who do special effects for CSI.

Did I rec Game On last year? Because I've been asking for a vid to it for all of Festivids, just about. It's one of those awesome small-ensemble British comedies, about three flatmates. Matt is agorophobic and can't leave the flat, which is hysterical as he tries to find ways to amuse himself, and at once stage accidentally joins a band (lol). Mandy is a blonde bombshell who keeps accidentally sleeping with people, despite her insistence that she wants to focus on her career. And Martin is a socially awkward bank worker whose existence seems to be eating the dinners his mother cooks and freezes for him, making Matt cups of tea, and going to pick up the takeaways.

The one problem for vidding is that the character of Matt was played by Ben Chaplain in the first season and Neil Stuke in the second and third. So you can't really vid all the seasons together.

Two new things that I'm excited to nominate this year are:

Longmire is a currently airing TV series on A&E (2 seasons so far). It's a modern day western and has some beautiful vistas and compelling characters. Cowboy poetry.

Trouble with the Curve stars Clint Eastwood as a baseball scout. It's got a schmoopy father-daughter plot that makes me gooey. Also, when watching all the fabulous League of Their Own vids last year, it made me want more baseball films.

Stoker -- It's like Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt if the girl, instead of trying to turn her murderous uncle over to the police, wondered if perhaps she should join him... some really amazing cinematography and visual parallels. Stars Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode, and Nicole Kidman.

Speaking of!

Shadow of a Doubt (1943) -- Somewhat lesser-remembered Hitchcock film (though reportedly his favorite) in which a young woman discovers that her beloved uncle may have deadly secrets and begins to investigate. Creepy and fun.

Aelita: Queen of Mars (1924) -- A Soviet social drama cum science fiction adventure, Aelita is one of the earliest full-length films about space travel, most notable for its constructivist Martian costume and set design, which influenced many later science fiction films. (Unlike many silent films, it's easily obtainable in excellent condition, having been restored frame-by-frame and uploaded to Archive.org.)

I was coming to suggest Graceland, but I see someone beat me to it! Seconding that one, though, because it's really great and visually pleasing in many ways.

I'm also thinking of nominating 'Perception', which is a TNT show starring Eric McCormack and Rachael Leigh Cook. Daniel Pierce is a doctor of neurology who is also a paranoid schizophrenic. He teaches at a small college and tries to manage his condition with the help of his live-in assistant, Max. There's only 20 episodes, so it wouldn't take long to get through.

I believe the Dragons: The Series is Dragons: Riders of Berk

I would like to nominate Warm Bodies, the recent zom-rom-com. The trailer got me interested, and I enjoyed the film's lurching approach to romance. For nothing else, wouldn't you be interested to see John Malcovich turn in a restrained performance as the militant leader of a group of humans?

I've requested American Gothic the past couple of years, thinking someone's got to also adore the extreme creepy factor of a town under the sway of a demonic sheriff, a menacing performance by Gary Cole.

I would also love to see on the list Wolf Lake, a tragically short-lived werewolf soap opera/murder mystery (Desperate Housewolves?), starring an absolute ton of people you'll recognize.

Where are the Phineas & Ferb vids, for that amazing, I-can't-believe-it's-Disney animated show about two step-brothers with unlimited creativity (and funding), their pet platypus with a secret life as a super spy, his bumbling nemesis Dr. Doofenshmirtz, and the rest of their zany group of family and friends? Every week has one or more musical numbers in a different style, and the continuity is insane. Won't someone think of the children?

The Queen's Classroom: Sixth grade class gets teacher from hell. This is a soothing and lighthearted show that will definitely not make you claw at your head in agony as you try to figure out what your feelings are doing. (I'm not sure I'd recommend it to anyone who finds bullying especially painful to watch though, to stop lying for a minute...)

Sungkyunkwan Scandal: Crossdressing Joseon Dynasty romcom. Kim Yoon Hee accidentally gets herself admitted to Sungkyunkwan University as a male scholar, hijinks enthusiastically ensue. Funny and endearing hijinks starring attractive people.

I may come back with some more, but here are a few to start!

* Kinky Boots (2005): now a hit musical, this was originally a lovely film starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Joel Edgerton, and Sarah-Jane Potts, about a shoe factory in England that starts making boots for drag queens to keep from going out of business.

* Chariots of Fire (1981): outstanding, award-winning film about the British track team for the 1924 Olympics, and what motivates them to run and to live their lives as they do. One of my favorite movies.

* The History Boys (2006): pretty sure this has been vidded for Festivids in previous years, but just in case the source material hasn't been recced enough - fantastic film based on Alan Bennett's play (and featuring the original stage cast) about seven working-class boys in the 1980s who are trying to get into Oxford and Cambridge to read history, and a few very different teachers who influence them along the way. Alternately heart-warming and heart-breaking, hilariously witty and thought-provoking, complete with pretty boys, poetry, singing, and Frances de la Tour. Oh, and did I mention the queerness? SO. MUCH. QUEERNESS.

Bletchley Circle

A fantastic PBS thriller mini-series about four women who worked as code-breakers for the British during WWII. The series follows what happened to the women after the war and their efforts to catch a serial killer. Moody, mysterious, and fantastic clothing!

Also: Jetpack, thanks for doing this!! Yea!

Contact (movie, 1997)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118884/

A very interesting sci-fi movie about the first contact with extraterrestrials, based on Carl Sagan's novel, starring the amazing Jodie Foster. The story is full of feelings, drama and creative fantasy.

And yay for Space Patrol Orion! This was the very first fandom I loved, when I was a child.:)

Thanks for doing this!

The Listener.

This is a Canadian series, currently in its 4th season, about a telepathic paramedic moonlighting as a police consultant who is coming to terms with his abilities and how to use them for good.

The show has changed dramatically from season to season, but it's always pretty and feel-good. Vids are required!!

Usagi Drop (movie)
The IMDB page makes it look like this is an anime, the movie is not though it is based on the original anime/manga. Trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYvxhmIBO7Q‎

I love this new show about a group of undercover federal agents who live together, starring Aaron Tveit and Daniel Sunjata. Action and intrigue with plenty of angst about how to navigate life and relationships when you can't tell anyone who you really are, against the backdrop of beachy LA and beautiful people.
