Night Watch (and its sequel, Day Watch) is a Russian fantasy thriller set in a present day cold war between the supernatural forces of light and darkness. The films are full of cynical bureaucratic compromise, tense and sometimes video game-like action, vortices of crows circling silently overhead, Very Important chalk, blood drunk with vodka, dolls that walk on spider legs, and awkwardly timed bodyswap.
