It occurs to me that, other than my brief and completely unintelligible post from earlier, I haven't made a significant update in two weeks. Whoops. Here's the deal:

I was in fact, offered a job at a different web hosting company which I accepted and now I work with [livejournal.com profile] lizbetann (same schedule and everything). Went home for Christmas and moving, vastly underestimated the amount of time needed to get our crap out of the apartment, ending up doing the drive to Los Angeles a day late and the schlepping of items into the storage unit a day after that. But long story short, both [personal profile] echan and I are now Los Angeles residents (crashing with Lizbet and [livejournal.com profile] diannelamerc for the time being). We four drew up plans to live in a big geek commune of a two-bedroom apartment, only to be thwarted by unavailability and then unthwarted today when one opened up. Woot.

Also, I've been exercising daily on the Wii Fit. It's weird but I feel healthier and my ADD (which is currently unmedicated due to a foul-up with the prescriptions in the moving process) is actually semi-manageable. Mind you, when the expectations start to ramp up, I'll want my shiny orange pills again, but for now, I'm kind of okay.

Also, Lizbet and Dee are made of win. That is all.

You know, things to do before I leave Phoenix.

I'm trying to think of anything cool I need to try out or do one last time before I head out for Los Angeles in three weeks.

For instance, I'd love to do the drive-in (but I don't have a radio in my car).

Any ideas/suggestions?

I am moving in less than a week and while I started the packing process early, I feel like I am hopelessly behind. Good thing there's a three-day weekend.

Things to do in the next six days or so )

I'm probably forgetting something. Oh well.

...oh my sweet something-or-other-deity-type.

I hate moving. I don't think hate is strong enough. Is there something stronger than hate? Loathing? No, still not strong enough.

Whatever it is, I that moving.

Much love to [livejournal.com profile] desertwillow and especially her husband for helping us out for a few hours last night.

No love to my aching muscles and joints for deciding to puss out on me.

Even less love to my glasses, which have been missing since Friday night.

As you may or may not know, [livejournal.com profile] midnightfae and I are in the process of moving. As such, our place has been invaded by boxes.

I'm also on a book-buying binge of late. I picked up some new stuff at Borders today (including an absolutely stunning book that just contains pages and pages of vintage horror posters) and file them appropriately. Then I snapped a bunch of pictures, because sometime in the next few days, I'm going to have to take all these books down and I wanted to preserve the image for posterity.

I've included the pictures below the cut. This is just the bookshelf devoted to my cinematic studies as well as my general writing and coding references (although I've had to pull most of the writing books over the past few days to make room for new movie-related acquisitions).

We're gonna need a bigger bookshelf )
ETA: I didn't mean to give the impression that I wanted sympathy for my books. Far from it. I'm damned proud of this collection. When I saw the breadth of my cinematic library, I had to snap some pictures.

Incidentally, I found another book that I forgot to file, so shelf #2 should be about a book wider.

Thoughts on the new Sweeney Todd trailer, Zombi 3, and the hilarity of Deran Sarafian (actor, but also director of Buffy's "Killed by Death" ep) on the Zombi 3 commentary track are all over at Cinema-Geek.com. Which you'd know if you were subscribed to [livejournal.com profile] cinemageekblog. Hint hint.

Still waiting on word on the new apartment. Oh, did I not mention that [livejournal.com profile] midnightfae and I applied for a new apartment? We did. Best part is that the bathroom is not attached to either bedroom. Privacy, I will know you again.

Cleared out most of the living room in the new place yesterday. Hope to finish up tonight, get some vacuuming done since Mom's allergic to the apartment for some weird reason. Going to IKEA at some point this weekend to get a dresser for the roomie and additional DVD storage for me (I'm running out of space, especially with the addition of [livejournal.com profile] midnightfae's DVDs to the mix).

Still need to finish up my room. I can pretty much live out of it as-is, but I still have a few boxes worth of miscellaneous crap to sort through. Additionally, there's a good chunk of my stuff still at the old place, including all of my kitchenware and my clothes hangers (the things you forget...).

Gearing up for Comic-Con ridiculously early, partially because I don't want to be situated so far from the convention center again and partially because I (emo tear) miss my Comic-Con friends a lot. Like moreso than usual.

Classic-Horror is sludging along, slowly but surely. Posted a review last night, will post another on Thursday. Neither is mine. I haven't written a review since October and I need to rectify that. I have something like six unfinished reviews going right now (Mad Love, House of Wax '53, It's Alive, Satan's Playground, The Mole People, and Terror at Red Wolf Inn, the latter being the best cannibalism film nobody ever heard of). Also slowly but surely moving everything to the new dynamic format, which rocks and will save me so much time in the long run.

Working on Yuletide... meant to get this started earlier, but oh well. Going to finish it over the weekend and have it beta'd in time for submission on the 18th.

Oh and just got some contracted web design work. Go me.

Er, that's all from this corner. I lead an exciting life.

Full entertainment center is now set-up -- the cable box (with DVR omg) was installed yesterday while I was at work. My room is still chockfull of boxes -- I like to save them but I don't have anywhere to store them in the new place.

Still have to get all my other stuff from the old apartment. My clothes, for example. I have enough to last me the week, except in my infinite wisdom, I only grabbed one pair of socks. Brilliant, simply brilliant. I feel severely gross at the moment, at least from my ankles down.

Spent last night doing not much of anything -- both [livejournal.com profile] midnightfae and I were getting seriously run-down and took a little time off. Will have to work on finishing up my room tonight and then figure out where to go from there.

In other news, finished off "The Pirate Planet," the second story in the Fourth Doctor's "Key to Time" season. Very good stuff. Loving Tom Baker and I think I'd love him more if the direction wasn't so utterly flat. That's old school Doctor Who for you, though. I am hoping some episodes are better than others in that department. Interesting side note -- The Pirate Planet was written by Douglas Adams and contains a lot of bits that are very proto-Hitchhiker's Guide.

Er, anyway, I should get back to work. Ta.

So says my tired, aching body.

Miles to go before I sleep, though. Miles to be walked after work, though. Meh.
