jetpack_monkey: (Jack Skellington - What Does It Mean?)
[personal profile] jetpack_monkey
As you may or may not know, [livejournal.com profile] midnightfae and I are in the process of moving. As such, our place has been invaded by boxes.

I'm also on a book-buying binge of late. I picked up some new stuff at Borders today (including an absolutely stunning book that just contains pages and pages of vintage horror posters) and file them appropriately. Then I snapped a bunch of pictures, because sometime in the next few days, I'm going to have to take all these books down and I wanted to preserve the image for posterity.

I've included the pictures below the cut. This is just the bookshelf devoted to my cinematic studies as well as my general writing and coding references (although I've had to pull most of the writing books over the past few days to make room for new movie-related acquisitions).

Boxes! Boxes!
This is what our living room looks like right now. It's kind of nuts.
Bookshelf o' Cinema - Top Three Shelves Bookshelf o' Cinema - Top Three Shelves
Lookit all those books.
Top Shelf Top Shelf
This is where I keep my periodicals (although most, including all my Rue Morgues, are scattered around the apartment right now), books too tall for other shelves, and the first half of my "Classic-Horror Research", organized by author.
Second Shelf Second Shelf
Second half of the Classic-Horror Research section, followed by books about specific genres (organized by genre), books about the cinema of specific countries (organized by country), general film theory (organized by author), and the very beginning of the books on individual films (organized by film title, then author).
Third Shelf Third Shelf
The rest of the books about individual films, then a couple of books covering multiple filmmakers/actors (organized by author), and then my books on individuals involved in cinema (organized by subject, then author).
Fourth and Fifth Shelves Fourth and Fifth Shelves
My fourth shelf is a mish-mash of books on television programs (organized by show title), coding (organized by language, then author), and the two writing books that haven't been packed up yet.

The fifth shelf is where I keep my general review guides and reference books. The reason that the Mario Bava book is leaning against the shelf rather than sitting on it is that the book turned out to be too tall (and it's too heavy to risk putting up top). I'll probably stick my Videohound Golden Retriever Guide there instead. The Bava book is blocking your view of Roger Ebert's "The Great Movies".

ETA: I didn't mean to give the impression that I wanted sympathy for my books. Far from it. I'm damned proud of this collection. When I saw the breadth of my cinematic library, I had to snap some pictures.

Incidentally, I found another book that I forgot to file, so shelf #2 should be about a book wider.
