I have no idea what I'm doing or how this is supposed to work, but it should be a blast! I'll try to have somebody take some pictures for posterity.

So much stuff going on. Some of it I can control, some of it I can control but don't seem to have any desire to do so, and some of it is out of my hands.

Credits Addict: This bit is boring )

Book: Based on a promise that [livejournal.com profile] kenobi  extracted from me -- crafty lady -- this year I'm properly starting work on some sort of horror film related book. It was meant to be a book on comedic represenations of cannibalism in film, but it turns out that another author is working along similar enough lines that I need a new idea. I'm still pondering.

Web Design: Designing a website for Dad right now. It's... going.

Work: Busy.

Phoenix Comicon: Not quite sure what's going on here, because the coordinator in question is clearly very busy, but I'm fairly certain I'm doing a panel on classic horror there in a few weeks.

Fun: I do have time for that. And it's been awesome.

Anyway, in the next week or so, keep your eyes peeled for my annual "A Great Many Things I'd Like To Do This Year" list. And of course, next month we'll have my annual birthday mix CD and Top 25 films list.

Please, ladies and gentlemen, do try to hold your excitement when I tell you the momentous news. I, being of sound socially functional mind and body, have done something so incredible, I scarcely believe it myself:

I have returned a DVD to Netflix.

Nay, I have returned two to the loving bosom of the movie mail-rental company.

This is a feat that has not been seen in nearly eighteen months! Many thought it impossible that such a thing would ever be achieved again, but I have sallied forth and deposited the envelope securely in the proper receptacle for the United States Postal Service to retrieve and thenceforth deliver to its rightful owner. Zounds!

Knowing that, at any moment, I can watch Joe Dante's Piranha in anamorphic widescreen because the DVD player on my media server is region-free.

Boo ya.

  • He's tall.
  • He's from the Midwest.
  • He escaped the Midwest for a major metropolitan area.
  • He's a giant dork.
  • He thinks that fruity drinks that taste awesome ARE awesome, no matter what your gender.
  • He cares about the environment.
  • He's hyper-competitive but pretty easygoing at the same time.
  • He has continued the pursuit of awesomeness into his late 20s.

Oh yeah. Tennant's Doctor may be my body-type avatar, but Marshall Eriksen is totally my personality avatar.

Geek: Buying this book about Mario Bava by the world's foremost Bava expert for $130 dollars.

Slightly Less Geek: Buying it now so I don't have to pay $250 dollars after August 21st.

Geekier: Bidding in this auction, the spoils of which include a signed and numbered copy of the book (a refund will be given for my originally purchased copy if I win, should I choose), plus the entire book in PDF format, an unreleased audio commentary for Bava's Kill, Baby... Kill!, audio recordings of interviews with Vincent Price and Cameron Mitchell, high-res color proofs from the books, original manuscript pages, an 8x10 original Bava still, and a 1995 Black Sunday calendar signed by star Barbara Steele.

I really hope I win. There's ten available "Bava packages" in the auction and nine bids so far.

*pffffft*

If you've just friended this journal thanks to the [livejournal.com profile] lifeonmartha friending bonanza, bravo. Bravo for a few reasons:

First, for locating an actual male in online fandom. We are a rare species and should be treasured. *high five to [livejournal.com profile] hjcallipygian*

Second, because I'm awesome. Ask anybody. No, not him. And not her either. There, over there. The person that only appears to have been paid off. Trust them.

Third, because I am very very tall and you can never have enough friends who can be so described.

Content-wise, I'm in a bit of a transitional stage. I hope you like movies. I can be quite edutaining about film. It comes from 1.5 years in a cinema degree from a state university. Think Tarantino with half the cool or Roger Ebert with half the attention span. Think about that very hard. Now let it go, because I'm nothing like that.

I make icons. I RP when I have time. I write horror movie reviews when I have more time. I'm a big geek all of the time.

There. That basically fails to sum me up. Enjoy.

ETA: New icons in the icon journal.
