I'm at Escapade now, in what's technically my second year as con staff (apparently I was staff all last Escapade and didn't know it until the end of the weekend).

It's so lovely to see all of these wonderful people and the new faces as well.

I put together a tribute to Leonard Nimoy for a wake we held last night and it went over well. I may post the file later.

As for the request, I need to refuel my music tanks for future vid purposes and I'm having some trouble doing it on my own. Any good bands, albums, or songs that folks can recommend? Doesn't necessarily have to be good vidding music... I just need to start getting into that headspace.

Two band recommendations

I recently uploaded a bunch of random music in a few posts...

If there's something in here you find interesting, let me know and I can maybe offer suggestions for similar stuff.

Hmmm, recommendations...

For rock, I'd recommend Barcelona and The Spill Canvas. Toad The Wet Sprocket for rock with a folk edge. My favourite for some years has been singer/songwriter Howie Day. His stuff seems to be popular with TV producers - I've heard his stuff on quite a few shows. "Stop All The World Now" is about the only album I own that I can play all the way through without skipping a track, something I can't even say about my beloved Duran Duran.

New Zealand music has produced some great bands recently. The Feelers or Opshop if you're after rock. Brooke Fraser for female singer/songwriter. The Naked and Famous for dance/synth. Or The Broods.

I hope so! I'm always hunting for new music but so rarely find anything I like. Gareth always used to find me stuff.

This is gonna be kinda random, and you'll have likely already listened to a bunch of these, but here goes what I can come up with at this stupid hour.

BNL, pretty much everything (I'm oddly fond of Tonight Is the Night I Fell Asleep at the Wheel.)
Regina Spektor, also pretty much everything (the version of How she did for The Live Room on youtube is up there with MB20's You Won't Be Mine for most gut-wrenching breakup song ever)
While I'm thinking about him, Rob Thomas, Now Comes the Night off of Something To Be.
Alan Parsons Project, Live
John Hiatt, Hiatt Comes Alive at Budokan
Bruce Springsteen, most of The Rising, especially Further On Up The Road
Trans Siberian Orchestra, Beethoven's Last Night
Vienna Teng, Waking Hour
Spring Awakening soundtrack, Totally Fucked
Sting, Ten Summoners Tales, I Hung My Head
James Blunt, dunno the album, No Bravery

Okay, enough for now.

I don't know if you'd be into it, but I've been listening to a TON of Grimes lately. Check her out; it's low-fi elecontronica.
