One major thing I took away from this year's Vividcon is that my knowledge of music, specifically good vidding music, is woefully limited. I've been trying to expand by buying up tons of MP3 albums whenever Amazon has $5 sales and listening to Songza and Pandora, but I wouldn't mind getting some recs on artists past and present that I should look into.

This is especially important with Festivids coming up and my plan to make *all the vids*.

So, who do you love?

I have the opposite problem, wherein I listen to so much music I have a hard time narrowing it down. Honestly, I might as well rec you my local music station, The Current, which you can stream online. It's a rare occasion they play something I don't enjoy.

Hmmm, good question. I was a musician before I was a vidder, and I'm very passionate about music, but I struggle to find an artist that I like more that one or two tracks from, these days.

One exception is Howie Day. I love his stuff. It gets used a lot in TV shows, actually. I am also currently enjoying stuff by The Script, The Spill Canvas, Coldplay, Sarah McLachlan, Dave Matthews Band, NZ band Opshop (they're fantastic) and my old teen crush, Duran Duran.

do you want my best pandora stations? i think you should listen to them and pick your favorites artists out of there. :-)

also,

florence + the machine (ceremonials is my absolute favorite album, you have to listen to it. in order. the whole thing.)
arcade fire (i just listen to the album "the suburbs" over and over)
stars ("in our bedroom after the war" is my favorite album)
regina spektor (the next chunk is all "singer-songwriter women with guitars or pianos" types)
Vienna Teng
sara bareillis (which is probably misspelt)
fiona apple
tori amos
imogen heap
metric (more electronic)
garbage
October Project (found through vids ten years ago, very wistful with very powerful female vocals)
oh, scala might be fun for vidding, swedish girls singing creepy covers of american songs
flogging molly (irish-ish, somewhat rocking)
jonathan coulton (geeky)
the magnetic fields (love songs with twists, happy sounding sad ones, sad sounding happy ones, queer people, etc)

do you want more? :-D

I have bad personal associations with October Project (which are nearly ten years old now, so I should probably get over them), but I will definitely check out the rest.

I have plans for the Scala cover of I Touch Myself.

I have no idea re: vidding, but I do love plugging a good band:

The Weakerthans (best damn lyricists in modern indie rock, imo)
Zola Jesus (gothicy overtones, sort of lo-fi powerhouse-y)
The Dø (French/Finnish genre-bending duo I've recently become slightly obsessed with)
The National (maaaaaaaaybe on its way to cliche? Slow Show has definitely been vidded, but their other stuff is also phenom)
And everyone needs to do more TMBG vidding. But I may be biased.

I can come up with more when I'm home next to my computer with the mp3 collection -- this one is somewhat lacking.
