About, oh, two months ago, I ordered all the Season 1 Farscape Starburst Editions from Amazon.com (I had ordered the other three seasons direct from ADV Films on sale). They told me it would be a few weeks, but the far end for shipping was put at July 9th and I figured it was a reasonable time to wait.

Today, July 10th, I got an email from Amazon informing me that there will be a slight delay in shipping and that my sets won't be shipping until... wait for it... December 2007.

Fine, whatever, I'll order them used. No joy. They're apparently out of print. Starburst Season 1, Volume 1 is going for $130. What in the name of whatever makes Amazon think they'll have an out-of-print Season in stock in December? Why not just tell me they can't fulfill my order?

Even then, I'd be pissed off, though, because I'd have Seasons 2 through 4 and no Season 1.

Anyway, I canceled the Amazon.com order and bought the sets through Half.com. Mind you, my last Half.com experience left me with no actual movie shipped, but I'm willing to hedge my bets here.

I am saddened by your experience but cheered greatly by your use of Mrs. White in your tag.

Just out of curiosity, what's the difference between the Starbust editions and the regular editions?

Regular editions are two-three episodes per 12 dollar set and have fewer features. To buy a season costs about 120 bucks, because it's ten sets to a season.

Starburst editions are about seven-eight episodes per 20 dollar set and have more features (commentaries, featurettes, etc). To buy a season costs about 60 bucks, because you only need three.

They don't sell complete seasons? That's a strange way to release a TV series.

I was thinking about buying it, but maybe now I'll wait and see if they release a series megaset or something.

They sell complete seasons, but they're just cardboard boxes around the 2-3 episode DVDs. They run about 10 dollars cheaper than buying all the discs individually.
