Yeah, I'm posting this everywhere there are eyes to see it, but dammit, celebration is in order. Classic-Horror.com was born (as Classic Horror, a subsection of my personal *cough*Angelfire*cough* site) on June 15th, 1999. Today, I celebrate ten years of the site (and yes, I'm going off Eastern time, for a variety of reasons involving the wonky Internet at the apartment).

Given that I am not likely to ever spawn, Classic-Horror.com is probably the closest thing I'm ever going to have to offspring. Let me tell you, I'm an insanely proud parent.

As part of the celebration, we've launched a brand-new design for the site, which I dig entirely.

At some point in September, I started an insane reviewing sprint and I haven't stopped. I've written five reviews for Classic-Horror so far this month. Five. Keep in mind my reviews are usually longer than a thousand words and they're fairly in-depth. Over the life of the site, I've averaged just shy of two a month.

You know that scene in Scanners where the guy's head explodes into hamburger meat? That's me right now.

There are a couple factors. Most of my writers are working on our massive October event. Also, we've had a number of post-2000 reviews on the front page recently, something I like to avoid, given that we are "Classic-Horror", emphasis on "Classic". I've had to bust out a few reviews of 1960s and 70s movies to compensate.

Still, in a given month, we don't usually post more than five reviews unless we're running a special event. My goal has always been eight -- roughly two a week -- but I never have enough writers. So far in September, we've published four reviews with three more in queue. On top of that, we have two screeners that will need reviews before the month is out, one of which I'm handling. That'll be nine reviews. Six will be my own.

I like this month. This is a good month.

Earlier this week, I sent an email to Roger Ebert taking him to task for denigrating "dead teenager" films in service of the AFI's most recent 100 Best Movies list.

He published it. As the first letter in this week's Movie Answer Man column. I don't like his answer, but dude. Ebert published my letter. Dude.

Also, he left my website URL on at the end.

My sister Xoë treated Julia and I to a live performance of Hedwig and the Angry Inch in this tiny little theater just a tidge larger than my apartment. The music was bracingly loud, the night was hot, and the air conditioning was a few fans, blowin' away...

It was completely awesome.

The Hedwig was the kind of combative, surly, super-sexual-transexual rock sorta-star that Hedwig needs to be, all done up with pink frills and sporting a very pronounced cleft chin. S/he belted like a true superstar (although it was obvious that the performer had spent a great deal of time listening to the movie soundtrack, as the inflection and timing was a near-duplicate). The crowd was appreciative, the music blared in a ridiculously righteous way...

Dude. I need to replace my VHS dub of the film in a now way. Too bad I am lacking funds (my Comic-Con hotel charged -- not held funds but charged -- for the full price of all four nights already. That was rather unexpected). Perhaps after the next two months of financial rollercoaster-age for fun is over.

Yay!

Somebody responded to the Classic-Horror Staff Drive.

WIN!

Mind you, I haven't read the review and I have no idea about whether it's usable or not, but I like the idea that people care.

Well then.

I have a new job! I start September 12th as technical support for iPowerWeb. This is totally awesome. My only issue is that iPower has a rep for bad tech support, so that's a hill I'm going to have to climb over with every person who calls in. Otherwise, rock!

Plus, I have a show tonight. This is the best Thursday evar.
