Movies in italics I've seen before.

Rifftrax: Star Wars Holiday Special
Bringing Up Baby (1938)
Dog Day Afternoon (1975)
Rifftrax Live: Samurai Cop
Rifftrax: Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny
Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet (1965)

I watched a lot of Rifftrax this week. I still don't rate them as being at the same level as MST3K, but they do find some seriously demented stuff sometimes (let me tell you all about Fun in Balloonland).

I knew Dog Day Afternoon by reputation, but nobody told me it would be so funny. The whole thing is laced with a sort of desperate humor that really works. Also, it has a young Lance Henriksen (who still looks like he's in his 40s).

Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet was my first movie night in several months. Don't worry, it was all done socially distanced. We all got onto Discord while I streamed the movie over Twitch. The pre-roll unfortunately glitched out, but the movie itself was smooth. There were some hiccups because everybody was slightly out-of-sync, but overall it worked out well. I'm looking forward to doing it again.

I didn't watch very many movies, as I've been going back and forth between rewatching Encore! Season 1 for comfort and watching Hannibal Season 1 for... reasons? I don't know. I like it very much, even if it's dipping heavily into territory I usually find stressful af.

Frankenstein 1970 (1958)
Popeye (1980) w/movie night gang (virtually)

Frankenstein 1970 was a passable monster romp. It's main attraction is Boris Karloff chewing scenery, which I will always pay good money for.

On Saturday, I had a virtual movie night using Netflix party where we watched Robert Altman's Popeye musical. It's not a very good musical and it's a strange movie overall. It was good to connect with friends, even over a text chat.

Unless Criterion Channel has some really boffo offerings in April, I expect to be movie-light for a while as I work through Hannibal.

Good

jetpack_monkey: Keyleth and Percy (of Critical Role) pretend to be monsters (Keyleth & Percy - Goofballs)
It's been nearly two months since I made a post. Let's not do that again, huh? (I will totally do that again)

I've been making some changes, trying out new things, and I fell into something really good unexpectedly.

* I started going to a gym, Nerdstrong, which has these geeky Crossfit workouts. I don't go every week, but when I don't go, I try to do a little mini workout at home and then go for a brief run. I've found when I don't work out at least a little, my brain turns to sludge. Brains and bodies work well together, apparently.

* Cooking! I'm doing it. Really basic stuff. Pasta, porkchops, grilled cheese. I have the ingredients for a chicken parmigiana for when I'm feeling a little bolder.

* Movie Nights. I'm having friends over for a monthly movie night where I show something weird from my collection while drinks are had. It's gone over really well I think.

* Something Good Unexpectedly. I don't want to get into any details on this because it's still very amorphous and unsure. But if it works out, I promise I will say more. I really want it to work out. I'll know for certain in August.
