I just blew about 1/8th of my tax refund on DVDs...

Saturday night, I bought the Out of Print Criterion Collection Silence of the Lambs DVD off eBay.

Then, today, I went to Best Buy and went bargain hunting:

Dark City
Jaws
Monty Python's The Meaning of Life
Monty Python Live!
The Hours
Go

AND

Josie and the Pussycats, my favorite bad film this side of Plan 9 from Outer Space. It's just a fun fun flick that's completely over-the-top. It's at once a complete consumerist shill and a semi-satiric commentary on consumerist shilling. Just one of those bubblegum movies that I enjoy way more than I should.

Nice upshot of today's purchases is that I only need to replace my VHS of Life of Brian with the Criterion DVD and purchase Life of Python, and my Monty Python DVD collection is pretty much complete. ETA: Also, I just now saw that And Now For Something Completely Different is on DVD. It's pointless to buy it really, seeing that I own the entire series and the movie's just refilmed sketches from the show, but... I must have it all.End Edit

I was thisclose to getting Angel Season 3. I really need to get 3 and 4 before my birthday, because Angel Season 5 is released on my birthday, and then I can start my Ultimate Buffy Marathon just like every other Whedon-obsessed geek-with-no-life in the nation.

I need Parker Posey and Sarah Polley icons...

Woo! Dig the Mystery Science Theater avatar :¬D
I've nicked some of my best Rocky Horror audience participation lines off that show...

I made that not long after they cancelled the program. Just sort of a "keep the faith alive" thing.

DVDs are so awesome. There's something just nice about owning one, isn't there? Where you just *have* that movie and you know you can watch it whenever you want. It's a good feeling.

I think I haven't watched about 1/3 of the DVDs I own (I mean, I saw them before I bought them, but I mean the actual disk).

I think I haven't watched about 1/3rd, too. I buy a lot of horror films for review, but then I sort of neglect to actually review them.

Hee.

Oh, Jim from 28 Days Later is playing The Scarecrow in Batman Begins. I just made that connection today. How awesome is that? I loved 28 Days Later.

Yeah, Cillian Murphy. My mom saw him in a play when she was in Ireland - Playboy of the Western World or somesuch. She said he was really good.

Do you know anything about the supposed sequel they're doing? All I've heard is the title -- 28 Weeks Later (I think).

I haven't heard a thing. Will look into it, though.
