Vividcon is in, like, a week and a half! *GLEE* Who else is going? Can I get a show of hands?

- Within the last few months, I've finished rewatches of Buffy, Angel, and Farscape. Now I'm pondering my next big pop culture move.

- jmtorres is our roommate now. It is awesome. She brought oh so many books.

- I really, really, really want to make an album-vid of Farscape a la Luminosity's Scooby Road, but finding good, consistent albums that are also salient to the subject matter throughout is *hard*. This is especially true since I only really discovered music in the era of MP3s, so I don't keep a lot of albums in my head.

- I'll have DVDs for sale at the orphan vids table at Vividcon again. Nothing new, just a repackaging of Volumes 1 and 2 from last year as a single unit. If you have one and not the other, let me know and I'll bring a few single-volume of each as well.

- Poking at a couple different vids here and there. Finished one vid, then decided it wasn't awesome enough, so I unfinished it.

- Went to see Puppet Up! on Friday. Puppet improv from the Jim Henson Company. Dirty, dirty dirty puppet improv. It was hilarious.

- Running Fiasco again at the con. Interest posts at Dreamwidth and Livejournal. There's still plenty of room on both Thursday and Sunday nights.

That's... pretty much everything I can think of right now.

I really, really, really want to make an album-vid of Farscape a la Luminosity's Scooby Road.

I am in the middle of a Farscape episode right now and keep thinking how much I want something like this.

I'll take all the help I can get. I've had a number of suggestions pointing me to David Bowie (specifically Ziggy Stardust). I'm going to give it a listen through.

I love David Bowie and am very familiar with his early work. I'm not sure I can totally see Ziggy for this, but I could be convinced. (:

Y'know, I'm listening and I can sort of hear it, but Farscape isn't a show with a lot of electric guitars in my head.

Yeah, IMO Farscape can sound like a lot of different types of music, but glam kinda isn't one of them. Now, if you wanted to use Scary Monsters...

That happens to be one of the (many) David Bowie albums I have on vinyl. Hmmmmm....

We should talk! IMO one of the things that makes Scooby Road work is that most viewers know those songs and there's nostalgia value attached to them, as with Buffy itself. It'd be great to see a Farscape album vid that uses similarly well-known, well-loved music. Although what's comparable to the Beatles I don't know. The Rolling Stones?

That was my first thought, but the Stones' albums tend to be kind of piecemeal (I was looking at them for a possible Angel album vid that I'm now not doing). They're a better singles band than they are an album band.

I'll PM you with some research on that nostalgia factor, etc.

Thinking about this further, I kinda think an American band or at least an American-sounding one might work best, depending on how deep into John's POV you want to get. The Eagles? Steve Miller band?

Hotel California is kind of John's story in a nutshell.

I would love this to be a John's psyche thing, but I'm also fond of the ensemble and the pure nuttiness. So... I don't know. I think that I'm not going to be able to perfectly match nostalgia with appropriateness to fandom the way Luminosity did.

I think the album will determine the approach. I'm comfortable in psyche delving, ensemble, and comedy. I'm... less comfortable with shipping, which means whatever John/Aeryn I inevitably do will be the hardest part of the vid.

Hotel California, true! Hee. I agree that the music is going to drive a lot of your creative choices, so obviously whatever you pick should be something you adore.

Also, I flipped through my collection of SF concept albums. I don't know Farscape well enough to have a great feel for it, and I certainly don't have any feel at all for how normal people choose vidsongs, but you might want to check out Alphaville's "Afternoons in Utopia" concept album, if you like thoughtful and spacey if sometimes cheesy synthpop?

Now that I've thought about it a bit, I have to agree that David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars album could work as a Farscape concept.

We should talk music at lunch on Saturday. Nothing makes me happier than hooking people up with good music, and I have TONS OF IT. :)

I took a listen to Ziggy and it's not quite gelling for me, but I'm going to go through my David Bowie LPs and see if there are other possibilities.

And yes, I would love to talk music. Music is my one major weak area as a vidder.
