I say "bad effects" with the utmost affection. As a classic Doctor Who fan I can hardly do otherwise.

Oh, I know. I love the rickety effects myself. Love 'em. Far more than CGI, honestly.

OMG, ME. TOO. Ugh, CGI, I have such ambivalence. I see it as oddly fakey-er looking than practical special effects, no matter how rickety, and especially when CGI is used to create people (orc armies, Iron Man, etc.). The motion never seems right. It's vaguely disturbing.

There's nothing like the thrill of seeing effects where you can appreciate the physical work and expertise that went into them. I love going, "I have no idea how they did that" or "I have some idea how they did that, but man, I couldn't possibly have the patience to do it myself." Especially when you consider that these effects were often carried off by a guy and his apprentice or a handful of technicians.

One of my favorite moments of Brad's Thrift Shop vid is watching the Harryhausen Kraken rise from the sea and realizing how much cooler it is than the extremely detailed, more-mobile CGI creation.

My favorite in your vid is the spaceships that are actually ON FIRE. With little flames coming out of their tails! \o/

I showed my partner P. the vid last night and he was entirely delighted. He says he now wants to watch the original Lost in Space.

The original Lost in Space is... I really wish they'd actually been Lost in Space? But they spend the majority of their time stranded on a planet. I basically chiseled out all the really great space moments from the first two or three episodes.

Agree. The little spinning ship at ~3:15 (parallel to Serenity) may be my favorite clip in the whole vid, separate from the ingenuity of the many many many other match-ups. ♥ ♥
