This just makes me sad.

Although, someone in the comments makes the point that traditional film criticism isn't dying so much as its moved -- to the Internet. Of course, you have to know where to look (and try to avoid the sites that are even worse than the soundbite-crazy print newspapers because they don't bother with fact checking).

Roger Moore, the film critic for the Orlando Sentinel, has an equally depressing article on his website where he basically admits that he tells anyone that dreams of being a film critic to find something else.

I think part of the reason I'm in the IT industry is that the only thing I ever wanted to be growing up was a film critic. And there's just no way to do that as a career anymore.
