After my run-in with food poisoning, I'm running into a bit of a problem.

Food is disgusting. All food. I look at food and I feel rot at the back of my throat. I can barely manage to get more than a single slice of pizza down before I have to stop.

This has not abated my occasionally ostentatious hunger. It's probably exacerbating my extreme skinniness to an unhealthy degree as well.

I still feel vaguely grody and my stomach still feels like it's set to douse its contents in liquid fire and then puree.

Help?

It's possible that, just because you haven't eaten in a while, your stomach can't handle heavy food (particularly not pizza!!!). you might try something really bland, like oatmeal or soup or a protein shake, and build back up to actual eating. Also, things like chamomile tea or weak ginger tea might help settle your stomach -- like if you were getting over stomach flu.

If none of these things help, though, then get thee to a doctor!

I realise this mightn't sound so great to someone not raised on the stuff, but Vegemite (or similar yeast extract) spread very thinly on dry toast is pretty much the staple in my house when we can't keep anything down.

shake your booty while the band complains ...

[this is an] icon shout-out, mostly, but i'm sure your food-aversion will pass ... i'd use the not-eating time to catch up on the sleeping and drinking!

[eta: also, as a mom of littl'uns, i agree with the above regarding partaking of the bland foods. when kids tummies are bad, they recommend BRATY: bananas, rice, applesauce, (dry white) toast & yogurt. hopefully the mention of the specific foods alone didn't set you off. maybe give them a try?]

I agree with the other people, try more bland, or at least lighter foods. Pizza (and most other greasy foods) generally won't sit well with a stomach that has gone sensitive.

Ditto all the bland food recommendations. When I'm tummy sick, all I want is dry toast and 7-Up.

Ditto everyone else. I recommend you try the BRAT diet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BRAT_diet) for a couple of days.

Hope you feel better soon.

Echoing bland food: bananas, oatmeal, cereal, crackers are good. I can't keep pizza down even when I'm fine.

(Catching up with friends list many days late.)

My friend Richard swears by this. He calls it "fighting fire with fire." He convinced his wife Beth to try it, and she says it works:

When you have an upset stomach or something, or feel really nauseated for a long time, eat a lot of Taco Bell. You'll be really, really sick for a short time and then you'll be done.

I've never had the guts to try it, personally.

*laughs* Was that deliberate?

I am feeling much better now, thankfully. Eating chocolate donettes at the moment.
