Wow, how is it then that I love Spike and hate Owen? ;)
I think Burn is a great actor. I think the character sucks and is my least favorite on an initial emotional response level. Tosh is my favorite on a "I want to hug you and make everything okay" level, and Gwen is the character I'm probably the most like.
Maybe I would've liked Owen better a few years ago. I think I've grown out of the bad boy thing. ;)
Jack needs to be more Jack-like. Ianto goes from blah to slightly interesting during the course of the series.
Owen is entertaining, I'll give him that, but it's not usually in a way I find enjoyable. I'm looking forward to seeing if series 2 sees any character growth.
You might find Tosh less bland toward the end of series 1. The last episode in particular.
Long answer: No, because he's the only one of the lot of them with any sort of consistent character development or personality. And Burn Gorman is easily the best actor on the show. And I say that as someone who hated the character.
Leave it to Russell T. Davies to make the character you're supposed to loathe the only dramatically consistent (and therefore interesting) one on the program.
Yeah, I think that a better S2 will go a long way towards making the other characters more interesting. They definitely do not have their footing right now.
I think he's almost my favorite by default. I want to throttle Gwen at least once an episode. Tosh seems to fill the space. Jack is wildly inconsistent. Ianto is emo!pain!boy.
I love Owen! This was the first Torchwood-related argument I had with people and had to officially ban Owen-bashing in my journal. He's just most believable and relatable of the characters in terms of his reactions to situations and his coping and defense mechanisms. Although the tables do turn a bit at the end of the season leaving me rather uncertain of what to expect from S2.
Nah... hated him at the start, tolerated him for most of the season... then he got his heart broken and suddenly developed into a real, interesting character.
Which is pretty impressive, given the resistance built up by the initial "He's the new Jack! He's Teh Sexy! You love him. Everybody loves him! You love him, right?!" push (down our throats) he got.

He comes with all the flaws and problems of a real person! It's brilliant!
