On July 4th, Michael "Egregious" Gunrow of The Horror Review approached me and let me know he was working on an article in my defense (or at least, in defense of Dead Teenager Movies). He and THR's editor were also compiling Ebert's requested list of the 100 greatest (not great, thankfully) Dead Teenager Movies. I agreed to help with the list.

Well, it's all done and posted today.

The Horror Review's article.

My companion article (and the first time I point out the whole Ebert thing on Classic-Horror).

Most importantly, The List. It's been sent to Ebert as well, per his request.

It's been an excellent experience working with Gunrow on the list and exciting to find a fellow horror fan with the same appreciation for the genre (although he and I disagree quite a lot on Wrong Turn).

It also makes me want to run the Caligari's Cabinet horror poll again in November and December. It's a thought, anyway.

I read the THR article. Wow. That's kind of awesome.

IT is a testament to our friendship that I tried very very very hard to read a very long article about horror films! While I didn't QUITE make it through THR article, I must give you mad props for standing up for what you believe in and really seeing this thing through. Awesomeness, Nate!

I appreciate the effort. The article is very wordy, I'll agree.

Very cool. Though I'm not sure I can take anybody seriously who puts Elm Street: 2 on a "Greatest" list of any kind. Even Deadly Friend was better than that. ;)

Believe you me, I put that one up for immediate dismissal on the grounds of "are you shitting me?" Same with both Sleepaway Camp sequels.

Can't win 'em all.

Wrong Turn beneath House Of Wax, Freddy vs. Jason, and The Lost Boys (I accept I'll be in the minority for the latter, but I found it camp and stupid). Say it ain't so?

And the first Jeepers Creepers was way better than the second.

Congrats on having such a renowned critic show an interest in your work though. And a good, comprehensive list it is.

Wrong Turn was on my Top 10 DTM movies, but another one of the critics felt it was the worst piece of cinematic scum to ever ooze across the face of the Earth. Its current position is a heavy compromise on both of our parts.

Also, having not seen Jeepers Creepers 2 or Soul Survivors, those rankings were based entirely on the other two critics' opinions.

Yeah, I'd rate it just below the true classics of the genre too, the Screams, the First Freddy, First Halloween, that sorta thing.

See Jeepers Creepers 2 but avoid Soul Surviours like the plague, it's disjointed garbage....

God I love my girl.

But there must be a hundred dead teenager films better than the mess that is 'Soul Suriviours'.

Love her dancing in it, though.

But still...
