I don't know why, but I had a sudden urge to watch the first episode of "Supernatural" again tonight. I'm a little hard on the show at times, mostly because I'm used to ensemble casts and complex plot arcs. After mainlining the first season last September (the box set was a review copy and they come attached with due dates on occasion), I was left with the feeling that, while it was a solid show, the lasting appeal just wasn't there.

Man, I was dumb.

This show rocks. My roommate and I blew through the four episodes on Disc 1 in what amounted to a single sitting (with a brief break between episodes two and three to get chocolate malts from Sonic). I love the clean through line, the simplicity of the set-up and the skill with which the show mixes American mythology with the Winchester dynamic. Oh and the music. The music is just gold.

Why did I ignore you, friendslist, when you were shoving the Brothers Winchester toward me at every possible opportunity? Why did I spend nine months as a non-"Supernatural" fan? I want to repent for my silly misjudgement by adding Winchester icons to my journal and buying Season Two on DVD when it comes out (although I'll probably wait and see if I can get it free again).

Also, Sera Gamble (writer for the series) is like my dream woman.

I kinda went through the same thing... when S1 first aired I watched a few eps, but it was on opposite a few other shows, so that was the one I skipped more often than not and I just didn't get into it the way everyone on my f-list did.

Then last year, when S1 came out on DVD, my roomie bought it and we ended up watching the entire season in four days.

See, I think that was my problem originally. I watched the entire first series in a week and I think I went into overload.

Good thing I have a second chance to undo the mistake.

I don't know why you ignored us! But, as the wise Sam Seaborn once said, let's forget the fact that you're coming a little late to the party, and embrace the fact that you showed up at all. :D For the record, Sera Gamble is TOTALLY the best writer on the show, oh yes.

My yen for Sera Gamble is mostly based on the fact that she's hot and she interviews well. And she loves genre.

What [livejournal.com profile] kayteaenbee said. I have ceased saying, "I told you so," to people who have resisted and then succumbed and now just smile smugly.

Sera Gamble is definitely my favourite writer on the series. (Well her and Eric -- he gets props for creating it all in the first place.) She rips out my heart on a regular basis and makes me love it.

And if you thought season one was good, season two blows it out of the water.

I can chide myself for missing Season 2, but this last television season, I didn't watch crap. Not Heroes, not Veronica Mars, not Lost or Jericho or any of that good stuff. So really, I didn't miss out anymore than I would have if I were already a fan.

Still. *want*

Don't bother wasting your time on Veronica Mars S3. Seriously.

But I highly recommend Heroes and SPN S2.

Seriously? Because I caught the first five eps and while it wasn't stellar, I rather liked Piz and welcomed the addition of Mac as a regular.

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] wolfling is right; season two is made of win.

You are going to love 'Hollywood Babylon' in Season 2.

Absolutely.

I was meh on season one, but season two was sooooooo much better! If you find yourself having squee over one, I think you'll see in season two why the show is blowing up and gaining fandom momentum. It's gotten really good! :D

I have also ignored Supernatural, apparently to my own detriment.
