THIS. IS. SPARTA!
Mar. 9th, 2007 03:30 amTomorrow, I plan on meeting any challenge with a heart cry of "THIS. IS. SPARTA!" despite it not being Sparta at all. Gerard Butler makes it Sparta, dammit.
Highly recommend 300 -- you can poke holes through the history, the plot logic, and some of the effects all you like, but then you waste a beautiful experience of guts and gory. Cinematic violence at its most rousing. It's a simple story awesomely told.
Of course, it might have been the effect of IMAX overwhelming me. Shell out the extra cash if you can for the mega-screen experience, because so very worth it.

Date: 2007-03-09 03:52 pm (UTC)Actually, it was Westwood. But, you know.
Midnight movie! I survived it! I surprised myself by not nodding off ONCE.
Didn't need all the Queen bizness, but I loved the shot-for-shots from the book, loved the lighting and the colors. Beautiful. And, oh, yeah, the violence. I loved the violence. And the many hotties.
WOO!
