The Gender Genie is a tool that allows you to enter 500 words of text, select whether its fiction, non-fiction, or a blog post and then it will tell you if the text was written by a male or a female.

It keeps telling me I write like a girl. I find this kind of amusing.

ETA: I've run a few of my Classic-Horror.com reviews through as non-fiction and the tool finds me indisputably male. Then again, it also finds [livejournal.com profile] midnightfae's reviews to be male-ish, also. Apparently, only guys use the word "the" a lot. Damn those specific definite articles.

What I find amusing is that most of the fiction I tested is apparently written by a guy, most of my lj is written by a guy, but all my rants are written by a girl.

Overuse of 'and' and 'was' is my downfall apparently, otherwise all my stuff would be written by a guy. Maybe I should just write shorter, less convoluted sentences and avoid the past tense.

My blog entries are female, but my fiction is male. Go fig.

I don't quite understand the logic of "her" and "hers" being feminine words...but it sort of guarantees anything fiction with a female lead comes out as written by a girl. Interesting though...

Both my journal entries and my research papers were apparently written by a man. I exhibit no surprise.

Really interesting link not entirely sure it works though. It seems to skew heavily depending on whether the character featured is male or female.

Tested some of my fic. Definately male when the 500 words is primarily Xander or Giles. But female when Faith. Journal entries male.
