I'm on lockdown here. I'm working from home and my job is relatively secure, thank goodness. Still, I've had my bad days. I need socialization, even a little bit. Doing video chats with [personal profile] sol_se and my TGIF/F friends helps.

Meanwhile, my sister and her wife probably have Covid-19. They can't get tested because life is a f**king nightmare, but they have all of the symptoms. They're trying their best to not let their daughter get it.

As you might imagine, I've watched a lot of movies.

Movies I've seen before are in italics.

The Lady from Shanghai (1947)
The Living Idol (1957)
You'll Never Get Rich (1941)
Casablanca (1942)
The Decameron (1971)
Midsommar (2019)
Event Horizon (1997)
Project: Metalbeast (1995) w/[personal profile] sol_se
The Canterbury Tales (1972)

The Lady from Shanghai was nice and noir-y, although Orson Welles should stay the hell away from the Irish accent. Justifiably classic climax.

Unfortunately, The Living Idol didn't live up to its potential. There was an interesting possible story about atavism and reincarnation and ancient gods, but it mostly became a story of a girl who is very sad and the man who releases a man-eating leopard to cure her sadness.

You'll Never Get Rich leans heavily on Fred Astaire's character being a backpedaling liar, which I find super-cringey. Luckily Rita Hayworth's character sees through it mostly. I almost didn't finish this one, to be honest.

I needed comfort food on Wednesday night, so Casablanca it was. Such a masterpiece.

The Decameron and Canterbury Tales are 2/3rds of a trilogy by Pier Paolo Pasolini adapting short stories from the Middle Ages, especially the ones about sex. If you saw The Little Hours, you saw another film taken from The Decameron. The films are solid, if a little listless at times.

Midsommar is so good, you guys. It made my Wicker Man fan heart happy.

I found Event Horizon to be meh. I think I was expecting more Hellraiser in space?

Project: Metalbeast was a good choice for my Saturday movie date with [personal profile] sol_se. It's bad but quite watchable.

I also kind of sort of watched Seven Samurai. Over the last few weeks, I've been watching bits of it with commentary in order to fall asleep. I finally finished.
