I've been surprisingly silent on the new season of Doctor Who, becuase while it's been very good and all and I can't fault it for any one particular thing... it lacks something. I don't know what, but I'm just not getting as excited about it. The episode's are top-notch -- some of the best writing the show has seen -- and the cast is brilliant, but...

Hmph. I'll mull this out.

I don't know. For me it's been more like an entirely separate show. A spin-off, maybe. One that makes me laugh a lot, and which I'm growing fond of, but to which I don't have the intense devotion I had to the old one.

*shrug* I'm pretty much going with that line of thinking, because you're right, there's nothing objectively wrong with this season, but I just don't feel quite the same.

To me, it's simple - it's doesn't have the building arc yet. Last year we had the mysterious Bad Wolf, this year the already familiar Torchwood. Any of the three episodes we're had so far could be interchanged, with no real changes (apart from Mickey joining).

Something's definitely off though.

Could it be that you're judging an entire season versus just three episodes? At this point last season, we didn't have "Dalek" or "Father's Day" yet.

I don't think it's that. I was pretty much squeeful little boy on Christmas about the series after watching a 2-3 minute clip the BBC posted online.

At this point in last season's run, I was excited yet, either. I wasn't hooked last year until "Father's Day."
