As If I Haven't Seen It Enough...

There was a contest on a podcast that gave away free tickets to see an early Phoenix screening of Serenity on September 28th. You had to answer five questions about the show. I won (which isn't that impressive when you take into consideration that they were giving away 75 of the suckers). I'm taking my sister, who is the only member of my Phoenix-based family who has not yet seen the film.

So yay. I finally get to see the *finished* film! Still going to be at the theater on the 30th, supporting the Joss with my money, though.

At the risk of sounding incredibly ignorant, what, exactly, *is* Serenity... I've gathered its a movie, but that's about it. And not knowing is starting to get to me, since I've got people in other circles of friends who are getting all excited about it too...

In 2002, Joss Whedon came out with a brilliant sci-fi/western television series called "Firefly." Critics hailed it as the most cancelled show of the season. However, its fanbase was rabid, and Fox released a DVD of the 14 produced episodes, which went on to be one of the most popular television box sets ever. So, Universal bought the movie rights and produced "Serenity," the cinematic follow-up to the series.

It's a good film (I've seen it twice in preview screenings) and you don't need to have seen Firefly to "get it." It opens September 30th at a theater near you.
