I have new toys
Jul. 9th, 2005 07:02 pmBought a new tape recorder and memory card for the digital camera. Now I'm super-duper set for Comic-Con, the reporting and being a responsible member of the press side of things anyway. The getting crazy and possibly naked part takes care of itself. I hope.
I'm half-convinced that I should start writing the Prisoner/Doctor Who crossover fic that I started in
goalieanna's journal. Mostly because the thought amuses me. However, putting an escape device in a place that is, supposedly, completely inescapable makes things difficult.
If you haven't had a chance yet, check out Doctor Who: Scream of the Shalka while BBC Cult is still open (it shuts down on July 15th, due to some people being whiny about where their license fee is going). It's a web animation produced before the BBC announced the new series. It features a completely different Ninth Doctor (voiced by Richard E. Grant) with a different sort of story.
Some very interesting ideas present here, namely the inclusion of The Master as The Doctor's traveling companion. Still sly and devious, he now works for good (cliché as it is), a voice of reason to The Doctor's voice of other reason.
I particularly liked that The Doctor no longer controlled where he went. Unseen forces directed the TARDIS to places of need, much to the Time Lord's dismay and general ruffling of feathers. I suspect that these people are his fellow Gallifreyans, exacting a punishment on him for whatever actions lost him his last companions and brought about his most recent regeneration.
The plot, however, is fairly standard. Aliens try to take over the world, blab a lot when the end is nigh, The Doctor saves the day. Voila. Shake, stir, rumba.
Unfortunately, further adventures of this alternate Ninth Doctor are not to be. The web-series was cancelled upon announcement of Eccleston's show. Pity. There were some interesting places this could have gone.
