[community profile] vividcon people! I am running my very first panel this year, on a topic near and dear to my heart -- the horror genre! I have a lot of notes and topics prepared, but I'd like to hear from you.

If you are planning on attending my panel (which is Saturday August 11 at 2:00PM), what do want to see/talk about/hear about? I want to make this panel enjoyable and informative for everyone, so let me know.

You can comment here or email me directly at nate(at)monkeyswithjetpacks(dot)com

If I were there, I would be mighty tempted to show up tipsy at your panel and shriek in fear over everything.

Because that is a productive discourse and not at all obnoxious or distracting!

In seriousness though, I wish I could be there. :(

I've often wondered about the best way to capture the mood and feel of horror in vid form without the music altering the appeal of the source (in a way you don't want) or making the original horror tone feel watered down. Many of the horror genre vids I've seen in the past have taken all of the creepy out of the source via song choice/pacing/effects, or turned horror movies into basically action vids. I've mostly steered clear of vidding the genre because I wasn't confident I could do any better.

A couple of vids that I feel handled all this exceptionally well are [livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett's Night of the Hunter (http://sockkpuppett.livejournal.com/541725.html) and [livejournal.com profile] kiki_miserychic's That Broken Day (http://kiki-miserychic.livejournal.com/185529.html), though I'm not smart enough to tell you why. I guess that's your job. :)

Great topic! It's one I am also interested in. I don't have the definitive answer, but maybe as a group we'll come up with some ideas!

I was mulling over the post and you suggested basically what I was going to.

I want to learn more about ways to create and translate that feeling and atmosphere into vids.
