jetpack_monkey: (Tom Servo Lives!)
Getting slowly back on the movie track. This week my large distractions were God of War on PS4 (it was on sale!), painting some minis, and checking out all the new Magic: the Gathering content surrounding the newest set.

Dead Reckoning (1947)
Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936)
Killer Sofa (2019) w/[personal profile] sol_se

Dead Reckoning is a film-noir starring Humphrey Bogart that I previously hadn't heard of. It's pretty great with all of the necessary twists and turns and a great femme fatale in Lizabeth Scott.

Mr. Deeds Goes to Town is a classic piece of Frank Capra Americana. A simple common sense small town fella inherits $20 million (or something like half a billion in today's money). He's tricked by a reporter (Jean Arthur!) who also falls in love with him. In the end, a conniving lawyer puts his mental state under question when our everyman tries to use the money for charitable purposes, which is clearly insane.

So, Killer Sofa is not about a sofa, unless there's an overly broad definition of the word I'm not aware of. The killer in question is a recliner, possessed by a dybbuk and killing anyone interested in the woman it's obsessed with. It's very goofy, especially because the recliner has these button eyes that are adorable. [personal profile] sol_se is now threatening to sew buttons into my couch when she gets here.
