My Week in Movies: January 12 - 18
Jan. 19th, 2020 07:55 pmAnother week where I was mainly binging Grey's Anatomy. I made it through an entire season in like four days (mind you, it was a short season owing to the Writer's Strike of 2007-8, but still).
The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972)
Parasite (2019)
VelociPastor (2019) w/

Some very Buñuelian surrealism in Discreet Charm, as a group of six well-to-do friends keep trying to have a meal together and keep failing for a variety of reasons. That's the elevator pitch, but it's not all of it. There are also some nested dream-in-dream sequences that have nothing to do with eating. I liked it, although I'm not sure what I make of it, ultimately. I feel my critical film eye has withered away.
Parasite was very, very good. There's a lot to digest. It certainly wasn't the film I was expecting walking in.
All I have to say about VelociPastor is "VFX: Car on fire."
