I was mostly showing sol_se movies I'd seen and liked, so there's a lot of italics this week (indicating films I've seen before). All films were watched with sol_se unless otherwise noted.
Ivan Vasilievich: Back to the Future (1973) (not with sol_se)
Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)
Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse (2018)
Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986)
The Old Dark House (1932)
The Dark Crystal (1982)
Ready or Not (2019) (in the theater)
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension (1984) (movie night)
The Love Witch (2016)
Theater of Blood (1973)
Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster (1964)
His Girl Friday (1940)
Detective Pikachu (2019)
Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964)
Ivan Vasilievich: Back to the Future is a goofy Soviet comedy recommended to me by a friend. You can watch it on Youtube.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall really holds up. I was worried that I was remembering it as being funnier than it actually is, but no, it's still just as funny.
The Dark Crystal is still a visionary piece of cinema. We also watched the first episode of the new Dark Crystal Netflix series, but it wasn't quite doing it for me. I had some reservations about the lore.
Ready or Not is a lot of fun and a good use of a theater excursion. A little gorier in a bodily-harm sort of way than I normally like (says the recovering horror addict). Overall, though, good stuff.
Everyone at Movie Night was properly confused by Buckaroo Banzai, so my work here is done.
The Love Witch is a bizarre movie where everything is 1970s aesthetics except there are also hybrid cars and cellphones. It doesn't seem like it has a particular place it wants to go, but it delights in the journey of not getting there.
His Girl Friday is an ongoing contender for my #1 film of all time, up there with The Third Man. Let Orson Welles and Cary Grant duel over it.
I liked Detective Pikachu. It's very cute and Ryan Reynolds is a delight.
