So. Christopher Eccleston will be playing Number 6 in a remake of the classic 1960s series The Prisoner. I am so very torn.

Anybody who ate at the same table as me the Wednesday before Comic-Con 2005 (and, really, anybody who conversed with me at all during the Con) knows that I have an unhealthy appreciation for Eccleston, the man, the actor, the sex symbol. I mean... guh. I consider myself straight and still. Guh. The man is, to be totally unimaginative, fantastic.

Still. Remaking The Prisoner. Nay, re-imagining it as an international techno-thriller... I'm very very cautious. So much of The Prisoner rested on Patrick McGoohan's permanent scowl and peculiar lateral thinking. They're trying to recapture something that, ironically, has been well and escaped for decades. I don't think it's happening.

Also, it's in direct competition with Season 3 of Doctor Who and nobody think that's a good idea. Hell, I download the show so I can watch either at my leisure and I think it's a terrible idea.

I'm waiting for more information but... I think I may need to make a post on appreciating The Prisoner in all its Cold War kitschy glory. This... I'm so confused...

ETA: Rereading the article, I see they're promising a plot that makes sense. Oh, way to completely miss the point, guys. The Prisoner practically ran on dada.
