All the vids! I kind of put this off because most of my vids are just available at Youtube, but that's not 100% true anymore. So here we are!

Title: Under My Skin
Song: I've Got You Under My Skin by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons
Source: Multifandom
Length: 2:01
For: genusshrike, Spring Equinox 2017: Vids in Space!
Warnings: Physical triggers (e.g., epilepsy or migraine: strobe lights, bright lights, "stuttery" cuts between 2-3 stills), graphic violence, sexual violence, gore, all the tentacles.
Note: This version differs slightly from the one posted during the anonymous period of the exchange.

Notes: This vid is sort of a dark mirror to Fly Me to the Moon by [personal profile] thirdblindmouse (with her full approval). I knew that this vid was the right call when I told [personal profile] settiai the concept and she responded with the textual version of facepalming. I made the whole thing in about nine days, I want to say. Also, I am very grateful that the trailers for Alien: Covenant have contained so much stuff, because I'm not sure the vid would be nearly as good without those contributions.

Notes: The last time I made a Doctor Who vid, Catherine Tate had just ended her run as Donna Noble. It's been that long. However, in a lot of ways, it's a bit like visiting an old friend (with a new face, obviously). Purplefringe wanted a River Song vid that encompassed all of the Doctors she tangoed with and I did my best to accommodate. Oddly enough, the song didn't come from the Guardians of the Galaxy trailers, but a Youtube trawl I was making for unrelated reasons.

Title: Stronger
Song: Stronger by Kanye West (for all intents and purposes with Daft Punk)
Source: Re-Animator / Bride of Re-Animator
Length: 1:58
For: terajk, Festivids 2016
Warnings: Physical triggers (e.g., epilepsy or migraine: strobe lights, bright lights, "stuttery" cuts between 2-3 stills), implied animal harm, comedic gore.

Summary: Herbert Kanye West

Notes: For personal reasons, I had trouble getting a vid put together this year. This was my first major attempt at a vid for my recipient but it wasn't my only. There are like three other incomplete timelines for other vids for a different fandom still on my computer. One of them may actually get finished someday. Anywho, I just find the arrogance of Kanye West and Herbert West to be weirdly simpatico and the driving refrain of "Harder, Faster, Stronger" spoke to Herbert's obsessive desires (not just to reanimate flesh). Many thanks to jmtorres and thirdblindmouse for encouraging/enabling this weird addition to my vidography.

Notes: I knew going into Festivids that [personal profile] thirdblindmouse was going to get a Hazards of Helen vid from me. I make her a vid every year (except last year). I also knew that she would immediately guess that I'd made said Helen vid. So, I decided to use this to my advantage, using the Helen vid to draw her attention away from a *second* vid. This one.

It's not exactly what she asked for, but I needed to come up with a concept that I could clip quickly with a limited number of episodes. Foeyay seemed the best way to go, so I whipped up this Murdoc vid (after a few false song starts). It is... much more ridiculous than I'd anticipated when I started.

Also, obviously, this owes a debt to the marvelous Doctor Who vid to the same song by [personal profile] such_heights  and [personal profile] purplefringe. I honestly tried to find a different song for a long time (options included Britney Spears and Nat "King" Cole), because I didn't want to step on their toes. However, ultimately this was the only song that really worked for what I wanted to do. I hope they don't mind.

Notes: This vid has been living in my head in one form or another since I made my goofier Club Vivid Godzilla vid over three years ago. I knew that, at some point, I would need to go back to basics and make a vid that really respected the weight and the horror of the original film from 1954. I'm very happy that [personal profile] larissabernstein requested this, giving me the chance to do just that. I'm really proud of the final result.

Special thanks to [personal profile] chaila, who made a Pacific Rim vid to this song in 2013. I'm not sure it would have found me otherwise.

I should probably post this before the year is out. Back when [personal profile] franzeska and I were putting together the Escapade Friday Night Dance Party, we talked about using [personal profile] luminosity and Kamil's classic Buffy vid, It's the End of the World as We Know It. However, the vid was made from VHS and off-air rips and when truly ugly video compression reigned. With Lum's kind permission and no idea of what I was getting into, I set about remastering the vid from DVD/iTunes sources, the results of which you can view/download below:

At first glance, the vid *seemed* like it was just going to be a massive clip hunt, which is in my wheelhouse. Otherwise, lots of cross-fades and not much else to worry about, right? Wrong. Lum is a mad genius, playing with overlaid clips and speed ramping and all that other glorious stuff that you really makes you bang your head against your monitor during a remaster. In the end, I think I got it *mostly* right and the vid plays nearly-identically on top of the original.

Notes: Premiered at Vividcon Challenge 2015 (Memory). This is my first video game vid ever. I started it a couple of years ago for Festivids in response to a request from [personal profile] absolutedestiny . I kept tinkering with it even after I missed that deadline. Eventually, I finished it. Obviously. So here we are.

While some of the video used here was captured on my Mac, most of it was sourced from Denny Ayard's Youtube channel. Additional sources include Jetup, Story Gamer, and [a deleted video that is no longer online].

Notes: There's a long and labored version of making this vid that I won't really bother you with too much. Basically I made the vid once (for [personal profile] nakedbee  in exchange for my sweet Number 6 jacket for Club Vivid two years ago). I had no intention of having a point of any kind. Except I did accidentallyhave a point and I stuck a dance break in the middle of it. So I recut the song, reordered my clips, and offered it up for [personal profile] thirdblindmouse to use in her Artificial Life show at Vividcon.

Much thanks to elipie, kuwdora, echan, shati, and thirdblindmouse for their encouragement and beta work.

Premiered at the Vividcon Premieres Show in 2015.

If you're wondering WTF all of these sources are, they're all from classic movie serials that played as part of matinee movie showings in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. They were basically like Saturday morning television before there was Saturday morning television. Each week, Our Hero fought The Villain and each week, Our Hero ended up in some peril that would certainly spell his doom. At the beginning of the next chapter, Our Hero would escape, often through very cleverly having *already* escaped, either through judicious usage of time compression in the previous episode or straight-up cheating.

This is one of those vids that happened because of other vids. Specifically, I ended up using a lot of movie serials footage in both my Starships remix and Electric Avenue. I became fascinated with their construction and their sheer trope-tastic-ness. At the same time, I was looking for a good source to pair with Flo Rida's Right Round after multiple viewings of Pitch Perfect earwormed me on that song. About three weeks before the Premieres deadline, there was a clicking sound in my head and away we went.

Many thanks to my betas/cheerleaders [personal profile] thirdblindmouse, [personal profile] echan, [personal profile] kuwdora, [personal profile] elipie, [personal profile] jmtorres, [ profile] diannelamerc, and [ profile] lizbetann

Notes: This vid uses at least one clip from every Hammer film that features either Christopher Lee's Dracula or Peter Cushing's Van Helsing. I've been meaning for years to do a companion piece to Don't Stop Me Now, my Hammer Frankenstein vid. One day in IRC, [personal profile] joyo raised the challenge: more vidders should be making vids to Dragonette songs. I popped into Rdio and the first song that came up started with this dark, minor key dirge that sounded similar to but distinct from James Bernard's score for 1958's Horror of Dracula. And thus, Fixin to Thrill became my vidsong.

My vidding process on this one was a bit different. I literally just pulled every clip I liked down onto the timeline. My hope was to create a visual melange based on the qualities of the footage divorced from the narrative context. My multi-source vids tend to collapse the narratives of multiple sources into one meta-narrative and I wanted to break away from that a bit. Unfortunately, my brain is just organized the way it's organized, and the end result is once again a meta-narrative. Sorry if you wanted something new from me, folks.

The one major issue I ran into while making this vid is that my fannish devotion to the source began decades before my personal social justice awakening. The dubcon/noncon subtext of the films turned me off a bit. Ultimately, I decided to turn into the skid and acknowledge the problematic nature (even if I was doing so in the midst of a vid that was supposed to be dancey fun).

I don't even remember everyone who looked at the vid ahead of time. I really must keep better notes. I know that [personal profile] thirdblindmouse took a gander, for which I am grateful.

She's been asking for this fandom for *years* now and it seemed high time she got it. So I made this. And she guessed me pretty much out of the gate, which I figured would happen, because I put Mark Hamill in.
