Yes. Yes he does live out in a desert... and I looked out the window at work and saw snow. Falling in the desert. Seeing a giant cactus with snow on it is neat!

That actually does sound really cool.

I live in Florida, and I remember when I was about six or so, we got some snow one Christmas. Really cool. It was just a tiny, thin layer on the ground and over the cars -- not even a quarter of an inch thick -- but it was the first time I got to see snow and it was just incredibly cool.
