In which I am interviewed for being a dude

I was interviewed to add a male fannish perspective to an LA Weekly article on slash fiction. I made it very clear to the interviewer that I would be upset if I was anything but a very small voice in the overall article, because the story of slash is not, by and large, a story about dudes. So to speak.

In any case, I was pleased that my part in the article was very small (although I'm a little annoyed that nearly half was taken up by me talking about the rough time I had at my first Escapade -- while true, I feel that my experience was probably an isolated one). However, a huge part of the article was taken up by male showrunners being kind of dickish. Which, you know, sky blue and grass green, news at 11.

Went to a lovely wedding in Georgia over the weekend, but that's another post.

Edited to correct "the first Escapade" to "my first Escapade" because I didn't know what slash fiction was when the first Escapade was happening.

I'm glad that you were chosen to give that perspective. And no, I don't think your experience at Escapade was an isolated one. There are a couple of dudes who come to the K/S party at Shore Leave, and have for years. They are accepted warmly now. But it wasn't always that way. I've been part of discussions among female slash fans about whether males should be allowed at various functions. Admittedly, it's been a while since that happened anywhere I knew about it, but it hasn't been that long. I'm sure in circles of older female slash fen, it's still possible to have that experience.
