So Friendslist....

What are some of the scariest episodes in television history?

(yes, I'm working on an article)

As a child a Halloween episode of Knight Rider scared the crap out of me.

(Stop laughing)

Would "Blink" count as a scary TV episode?

[identity profile] jetpack-monkey.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh heck yeah.

[identity profile] septembergrrl.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Hush," Buffy.

"Eve," The X-Files. (Creepy little kids get me every time.)

[identity profile] musicforcylons.livejournal.com 2008-05-04 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm seconding Eve!

Nightmare at 20000 Feet, of Twilight Zone

[identity profile] mpoetess.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
The pilot episode of American Gothic. "Someone's at the door..." aaakrjhklhj.

OMG yes. I also love any episode where Meryl (that's her name, right?) goes all angelic vengeance. Those are especially creepy because she's supposed to be on OUR side.

[identity profile] mpoetess.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Merlyn. And yeah, OMG PLAGUE.

Blink, Doctor Who.

The Empty Child, (Are you my mummy?) Doctor Who.

Hush, Buffy.

Squeeze, X-Files

Darkness Falls, X-Files

Home, X-Files

(I could probably list at least three or four more XF eps, that show used to scare me witless on a regular basis)

Ironically I can't think of any SPN eps that have particularly scared me -- though next week's looks like it might....

The episode of Twin Peaks where they show Ronette's memory of Laura's murder. I screamed out loud watching that.

"Hush" - BtVS

"The Host", "Home", "Irresistible", "Hellbound" - The X-Files

"Bushwhacked" - Firefly

[identity profile] yaseanne.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Most of the X-Files episode of season two are either repulsive or scary - The Calusari and Irresistible are especially frightening. Yes, that's the one with the guy who makes them shampoo and bathe before he kills them.

[identity profile] invisionary.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Pierrot le Fou" - Cowboy Bebop

And I second "The Empty Child" and third or fourth "Hush."

[identity profile] jetpack-monkey.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
Is Pierrot le Fou the one with the unkillable clown thing?

[identity profile] invisionary.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the one. Creeeee-py.

[identity profile] holy-whatever.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
kbsdakjgbkjfd yes to the Hush, and yes for Blink. *agrees with those before me*

[identity profile] booster17.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Blink" and "Hush" were the two that immediately sprung to my mind as well. Not sure what that says about your flist for also jumping straight to those two, rather than any of the straight up horror shows. *grin* Though I do think it interesting that these are from shows that don't normally do horror - maybe it's the contrast between these and their normal episodes that make them really stand out.

Otherwise, I'd suggest the early X-Files episode when they rip off The Thing, and ever seen Ultraviolet (the BBC show, rather than that god-awful film)?

Every time I hear that there's going to be another season premiere of American Idol I fear for the future of humanity, does that count?

I dunno. I can't think of an instance where TV has actually been scary.

[identity profile] timjr.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
...I am seriously saddened by the fact that I'm the only one who apparently remembers there was TV before 1990...

"Living Doll" from Twilight Zone, again.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned the season 4 X-Files episode, "Home." It's both scary AND downright disgusting on a visceral level.

Lots of Supernatural episodes have scared me. The pilot was pretty damn scary.

And ditto "Blink" and "The Empty Child."

I can't believe nobody's mentioned the season 4 X-Files episode, "Home."

Um, hello? *points to above comment* ;)

And your description of that episode is perfectly correct. *shudders just thinking about it*

Oh, doy. I'm blind! But yeah, gosh, what a creepy episode! Ew!

[identity profile] musicforcylons.livejournal.com 2008-05-05 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I don't get scared often, and I can't remember the name of the episode, I apologize, but there was an episode of X-Files where there was this faceless humanoid type creature that came up out of the sewer system (or something like). I never finished because the cable went out or something, but that was pretty damn scary at the time.

Other than that and Eve, I got nothin'. Sorry.
