Because Veronica's been replaced by a pod person and all sense of continuity has gone completely out the window? ;)

It's not even the continuity so much as the "wow, these characters can't see another suspect if it smacked them in the face despite GIGANTIC alarm bells freakin' EVERYWHERE."
