Political Statement (obligatory)

I am a registered Democrat, although I tend to think of myself as an Independent, mostly because I think the Dems spent the first six years of new century shooting themselves in the foot, and I did not want to be part of the great swiss cheese foot movement.

That said, congrats to our boys and girls in blue states.

So why am I lacking excitement? It has nothing to do with the political process. It has to do with politics and people. Once upon a time I had a tendency to run my mouth on all fronts political, social, and religious and it bit me in the ass pretty hard. I speak with more passion than thought when I get really riled up.

It's lost me friends. Admittedly, it's lost me friends that I eventually discovered were better off lost, but it lost me them in a way that made me feel like an ass. Which, you know, went with the being an ass territory.

I care deeply about politics and what's going on in the world and who's running things over in DC. I care about gay rights, women's right, children's right, human rights, marriage rights, personal rights, voter's rights, and the right to party. But when a political season comes around, I just don't have the beautiful argument construction and fervor I see at [livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs's journal or at Making Light. I envy them and I thank them for their part in pointing out the faults in the system that aren't always apparent.

It's been a hell of a ride these past few months. This is probably the last I'll say on it, but I'm looking forward to our brave new world that has such people in it.
